Putnam Valley, NY   See Map
Equal parts hot swing, snarky songwriting, and lyrical storytelling, this energetic trio of virtuoso violin, guitar, and upright bass, with three-part harmony vocals, will transport you to a speakeasy in the back of a bar.

Rob Flax is an award-winning violinist, classically trained but known for his jazz, improvisational pyrotechnics, irresistible grooves, and a deep knowledge of American fiddle traditions. He's also a powerhouse vocalist, capable of silky crooning or visceral Chicago blues shouts, and is a consummate songwriter with lyrical depth to complement his instrumental virtuosity.

With Slava Tolstoy on guitar, known for his “International String Trio,” which fuses Gypsy Jazz with World Music, and Noah Harrington, an award-winning bassist, composer, bandleader, and educator, the Trio elevates Rob's eclectic originals with intricate instrumental interplay, tight vocal harmonies, and irreverent humor.

Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional, and Americana
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Blend a powerful singer, a crisp acoustic guitar player and a heartfelt observer of the world and you have, singer-songwriter, Lynn Hollyfield.. She wrote her first song after her HS English teacher handed her an application to a song contest. She recalls winning something but gained so much more by realizing songwriting was a way to open up her world. From Staten Island, she initially performed in cafes and busked on the Ferry. Her "indie-folk-pop style" (Leicasterbangs, UK) reflects an infusion of many influences including jazz greats of the 30’s and 40’s to more contemporary singer-songwriters, from the Fast Folk era on. The result-her own voice, mingling wit, a silky sweetness and thoughtful reverie to her songwriting and performance. “Some artists are known for their voice, delivery, their songs or guitar playing. Lynn is not just ‘some artist.’ She delivers ALL of these with depth and clarity, one gorgeous song at a time.” Ruthie Logsdon, Ruthie & the Wranglers.

On Thursday, April 10 at 7pm, Bees in the Barn will perform a free concert at Nanuet Public Library, 149 Church Street, Nanuet, NY. Join us for an evening of high-energy acoustic music.

Featuring August Eriksmoen on mandolin, Jordan Shapiro on guitar, Nate Allen on bass, and Chelsea Needham on fiddle, the exuberant and inventive compositions of Bees in the Barn surprise and thrill live audiences. A true joy to watch, their genre-defying music is closest to bluegrass, perhaps aptly described as 'beyond grass,' blending many musical colors into a magnetic elixir of heart-thumping delight.

The group’s principal composer, August Eriksmoen, is a Grammy-nominated producer, Tony-nominated orchestrator, and recipient of London's Olivier Award. Notable credits include Only Murders In The Building, Come From Away, and Steve Martin's Bright Star.
