This eccentric jazz duo takes the very best in classic jazz and pop, and twists and bends them into what they call ‘evocative jazz, exotic lounge’. In this ‘duo virtuosi’, nothing is sacred.....improv is rampant...lyrics are changed at will...notes and chords are bent and perverted...familiar languages are obliterated....harmonies are sweet and sour perfection, and yet, serious, sophisticated and uncompromising in execution. The is one in-tune, out-of-tune, offbeat outfit.

Avalanche at Dawn performs as a duo and records as a band. The duo is Paul
Gross and Diane Guernsey. We're married to one another. The two of us live in New Rochelle, NY, just north of New York City, and we perform in this area. We play original songs written by Paul, with rock, folk, country and Great American Songbook influences. We both sing. Paul plays guitar and harmonica. Diane, a classically trained pianist, plays keyboard and arranges the vocal harmonies that are a vital part of our sound. We’ve been singing together since we met. Back then, Paul had just given up a career as an impoverished songwriter to return to school and eventually become a doctor. Diane had recently given up a career as an impoverished musician to accept a job in magazine publishing. Eventually, we both returned to music. Diane teaches piano and does vocal coaching at Manhattanville University, and Paul resumed songwriting with the creation of our band. | ||
