The public is invited to the Annual Christmas Concert and Tea at The Smithfield Church in the Smithfield Valley of Amenia, NY at 3 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2024. This year's program features the Smithfield Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Matt Finley. Music ranges from classical, pop, jazz, and holiday favorites.
The thirteen-piece instrumental ensemble includes flautists Michelle Demko and Lynnette Benner, clarinetists Charlie Gray and Kay Sutka, violinist Rob Murphy, violist Piotr Kargul, cellist Jean Vilkelis, bassist Lou Pappas, Larry Ham on piano, Walter Barrett on trombone, Jeff Siegel on drums, Milt Lee, conductor, and arranger Matt Finley on trumpet and flugelhorn. Veteran New York guitarist Doug Munro has an insatiable appetite for all things jazz.
With what has become the most streamed Gypsy holiday recording ever, La Pompe Attack will be back for their annual Holiday Gypsy Swing party playing all the material from "A Very Gypsy Christmas" as well as some new Holiday favs! During his tenure as lead singer and primary songwriter for Toad the Wet Sprocket, Glen Phillips crafted the band’s distinctive folk/pop sound, resonating with fans through honest, introspective lyrics.
Following Toad’s hiatus, Glen Phillips embarked on a prolific singer-songwriter career highlighted by his new album, Abulum. He also collaborated on diverse projects such as Mutual Admiration Society with members of Nickel Creek and Remote Tree Children alongside John Morgan Askew. “When my friend John [Morgan Askew] invited me to come up to his studio and make music, I said, ‘Yes’, as I collected a bunch of the new songs and headed up to Bocce Studios, in Vancouver, WA. Phillips muses on the album’s overarching message of embracing the present moment and finding fulfillment in simplicity, reflecting a personal journey towards acceptance and contentment. “This album is about showing up for what is and letting it be enough,” shares Phillips. The Poughkeepsie Jazz Project was created in 2012 with the goal of maintaining live jazz culture and community in Poughkeepsie, NY. Since its inception, The PKJP has presented a weekly jazz jam session accessible to all musicians and fans of live music. Over the past nine years, the jam has been honored to host hundreds of musicians from the Tri-state area. This event is free to both participants and listeners. All with a passion for jazz are welcome.
