Vance Gilbert is an American folk singer-songwriter. Although he started as a jazz singer in college, he discovered his affinity for the storytelling sensibilities of the acoustic singer-songwriter community. He became a regular on the open mike circuit in Boston and toured with Shawn Colvin. He is noted by his peers and fans as an ever consummate performer. In addition, he has recorded 13 albums, including 5 for Philo/Rounder Records. Gilbert is known for his improvisational rapport with audiences during his shows. He speaks as he sings, with sincerity and depth. He has a wide range covering Joni Mitchell one moment and doing what sounds like a jazz classic the next. Jessica Lynn’s A Very Merry Classic Christmas” has become a genuine New York holiday tradition, even eclipsing some of the biggest of holiday spectaculars. The Poughkeepsie Jazz Project was created in 2012 with the goal of maintaining live jazz culture and community in Poughkeepsie, NY. Since its inception, The PKJP has presented a weekly jazz jam session accessible to all musicians and fans of live music. Over the past nine years, the jam has been honored to host hundreds of musicians from the Tri-state area. This event is free to both participants and listeners.
