Alias Smith & Jones bring us the best of the blues. This band make sparks fly with a roaring harmonica played by Sal Carolei, the powerful and sultry voice of Renee Flemings, and The Button Men, a group of seasoned veterans, monster musicians in their own right with awesome power and raw groove.
Reviews of their recent album, "Hit and Run" are stellar. Bluestown Music Magazine says the album is "...funky, raw, sultry blues...powerful, soulful...hypothermic...A great debut mix of raw blues and soulful sound." Dominique Boulay of Paris-Move & Blues Magazine (Fr) calls it an album "so well done that we can't resist telling you about it. Renee Flemings is a singer with a powerful voice and such an organ supported by excellent musicians can only produce an album of excellent quality. And that is exactly what it is about here." $20 pp donation to musicians. On Esther St, or inside the BeanRunner Cafe in the case of rain. "Indie folk with soul and intellect... Their vocal blend is immaculate." Seven Days "Inspired by literary voices... with complex musical textures involving repeated instrumental themes," Folk Radio UK CRICKET BLUE’s dense, often dark narratives are delivered with musical and lyrical hooks. The duo of Laura Heaberlin and Taylor Smith are "Master Storytellers" according to NPR, as much as musicians. Listeners have lauded their songs as “an astonishing mix of original lyrics and arrangements that rewards the casual listener, as well as those who choose to lean forward and roll them around like great pieces of literature and composition” The weave of their voices and guitar lines are exquisite, and reminiscent of chamber music at its finest..
