Sunday 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm | Fred Gillen Jr. in Concert Folk/Traditional | BeanRunner Cafe 201 S. Division Street @ Esther Peekskill, NY See Map |
Peekskill native, NYFA (New York Foundation For The Arts) grant recipient Fred Gillen Jr has released nine full-length albums, to great critical acclaim, and has toured all over the U.S. and Europe. His songs have been featured on ABC's "All My Children," NPR's "Car Talk," CMJ's New Music Marathon Sampler, and in 2012 his version of Woody Guthrie's "I Ain't Got No Home" was featured on "Pete Remembers Woody," a collection of Pete Seeger's spoken stories about Woody Guthrie. Like Guthrie, his songs often reflect the struggles of the marginalized and forgotten, shining a light on both the despair and hope in the human condition. His live performances are spontaneous celebrations of all that it is to be human, he encourages participation, and he works hard to eliminate the "fourth wall" between performer and audience.

Those who busted their asses in order to continue to initiate the flames that push us to strive; to express; to feel things that may be functionally inexplicable ...even be ineffable, somehow."

Wednesday 7:00 pm | Richard Lloyd's TELEVISION | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
They [Television] were tagged “punk” because of a time and place, but Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd’s guitar alchemy in Television was a lot more sophisticated than just rock ’n’ roll with a sneer at 99mph.
Television always fell between scenes. Richard Lloyd https://www.richardlloyd.com/ With the band Television,, Lloyd helped put CBGB on the map, honing in on a mix of art-rock melodies, angular improvisation and antagonist attitude a generation before the current indie-jam movement. He participated in Television’s 1990s and early-2000s reunion shows, and has toured as a solo act. Lloyd's turbulent career and early experiences with Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead in his 2017 memoir, Everything Is Combustible, was released in paperback. He also continues to be an inspiration to younger musicians like Jeff Tweedy—“One year, his wife Susan called me up and flew me into Chicago to give him a guitar lesson, which lasted all day,” he admits—and continues to create at home in Chattanooga, Tenn. “You can change the past in the now. It’s about perception.” “I never felt the angst necessary to be a punk. I was too young to be a beatnik and too old to be a hippie. I like to say I’m an anthropologist from another planet who is observing human nature and expressing my observations through rock-and-roll.” BOOK REVIEW: Everything Is Combustible : Television, CBGB's and Five Decades of Rock and Roll: The Memoirs of an Alchemical Guitarist Legendary Rock and Roll guitarist. Founding member of Television. Masterful storyteller. Richard Lloyd s acclaimed memoir is now presented in trade paperback format. Written in Lloyd's inimitable, frequently humorous style, Everything is Combustible chronicles, through vignettes, Lloyd's colorful early life, starting in Pittsburgh and soon moving to New York City, and then details his teenage travels and encounters with music legends including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy and Keith Moon. Lloyd recounts the founding of Television, the band's rise alongside other bands and personalities in the 1970 s New York music scene, and the legend-making of the unparalleled music venue CBGB.

Friday 7:00 pm | Stephen Clair | Opener: John John Brown | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
"Stephen Clair rocks with the grit of Bruce Springsteen and sings with the sardonic poetry and phrasing of Lou Reed. " — Rogovoy Report, WAMC
VIDEO: Vacation Back Home: https://youtu.be/_owq3e6imaY Stephen Clair http://stephenclair.com/ Once the essence of the itinerant troubadour, writing and performing his songs from Seattle to the south of France, Stephen Clair’s been everywhere, man. And the songs (and albums) just keep coming. 2019 saw his supercharged Strange Perfume album, produced by Malcolm Burn, and in 2020, mid-pandemic, Clair released The Small Hours LP. The accolades did overflow. Relocating from Brook Brooklyn to Pete Seeger’s quieter lair of Beacon over a decade ago, the peripatetic Clair, with his brilliant new album To the Trees, has decided to focus his sights on home, looking to his own leafy backyard not just for inspiration, but for perspiration, too—taking his trusty Martin up and down the fertile Hudson Valley, planting seeds along the way. A family man now, the father of teenagers, Clair largely built this, his 9th and most personal album yet, from the rumblings within the four walls of his 19th century corner homestead, a former general store. Clair’s library, filled with Samuel Beckett, Dorothy Parker and E.B. White, again inspires, with the title track paying deference to Italo Calvino’s The Baron in the Trees—the song’s subject walking out on a family meal to live out her days amidst the limbs. Music aficionado Stephen Clair is renowned in Beacon NY as the driving force behind concerts of all sizes, and is the founder of the Beacon Music Factory, which teaches music to as many adults as it does kids. These endeavors hardly stand in the way of Clair’s own music-making. His current 5-piece band adds significant spice to Clair’s catalog, and lifts the songs—new and old - to the rafters.
