with Pat Metheny
Jazz
Bearsville Theater
291 Tinker St
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Pat Metheny is launching a new playing environment called “Side-Eye” for this upcoming season. Pat explains “I wanted to create an ongoing setting to feature a rotating cast of new and upcoming musicians who have particularly caught my interest along the way. I find myself inspired by how they deal with the musical challenges that come with the territory of some of those older tunes, and at the same time I find myself intrigued with the possibilities of what might be possible in writing new music just for them. This band setting is what that will be all about.
With Pat Metheny, you simply never know what is coming next. But among the many things that make this ever-changing artist so special is the astoundingly consistent level of commitment and quality that he brings to everything he does.

Singer-Songwriter, Americana. Eclectic
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
J. W. McClure mixes humor, heart and a deep poetic sensibility with sweet tenor vocals and nimble-fingered guitar in his songs, influenced by folk, country, blues, jazz and early pop styles, and honed over decades in the classic folk circuit of coffee houses, bars, festivals and concert venues. His tunes evoke a world both mundane and subtly spiritual, mordant but hopeful, and always splashed with wry humor and only slightly self-mocking optimism. In his recorded efforts, J. W. is joined by long-time collaborator and extreme multi-instrumentalist Thaddeus Spae on guitarron, harmonica, guitar, keyboards, trombone and more, as well as other musical guests adding long-distance accompaniments.

For over a decade Tuba Skinny has grown steadily in popularity, releasing twelve albums and touring all over the world. They’ve attracted a wide variety of fans- young and old, neophytes and niche-enthusiasts- with the strength of their musicianship and the scope of their jazz and American roots music catalog.

While they’ve become known as world-class interpreters of traditional jazz, over the years they’ve branched out into jug band music, spirituals, country blues, string band music, ragtime, and New Orleans R&B. Their approach is a true reflection of Americana, encompassing the full genealogy of popular American music from an early 20th century perspective.

VIDEO: Elvis Costello & Michael Leonhart | SHUT HIM DOWN | Qwest TV Original: https://youtu.be/3cbBuCX4MNw

VIDEO: Big Lazy | Dear Trouble: https://youtu.be/A-_AZTPBaUU

"Threads the needle between pop and experimental music seamlessly.... gorgeous.” - Forbes

"This is bold, energetic music with no fear of pulling from anywhere in the pop world, and it’s a refreshing assessment of the modern standard, each track a puzzle of familiarity." – Downbeat

https://www.instagram.com/michaelleonhart/?hl=en

Michael Leonhart, trumpeter, composer, producer, arranger has worked with Elvis Costello and Joshua Redman, Wu Tang Clan and Questlove. He has been a member of the legendary rock band Steely Dan since 1996. He'll be joined by NYC's noir instrumental trio Big Lazy along with guest Peter Hess (Philip Glass Ensemble, Slavic Soul Party, the Hold Steady) on baritone sax and woodwinds.

http://www.biglazymusic.com/

"Big Lazy, the elegantly gritty instrumental trio led by the extraordinary guitarist Stephen Ulrich, plays stunningly beautiful music that evokes everything from truckers' romps to the haunting film scores of Bernard Herrmann." -The New Yorker

Big Lazy has flourished for over two decades in NYC’s downtown music scene. Simultaneously noir and pastoral, gothic and modern, the instrumental trio conjures images from big sky country to seedy back rooms with cinematic clarity. With a nod towards classic guitar instrumentals and a fiery performance style, their most recent album, Dear Trouble, captures the essence of their legendary live shows.

Big Lazy founder Stephen Ulrich is the composer for the HBO series Bored to Death and the art forgery documentary Art and Craft. His filmic music can be heard in numerous recent episodes of NPR’s This American Life.

STEVE EARLE

"One of America's most gifted, living songwriters

Steve Earle has released nearly an album a year since the '90's ranging from bluegrass to blues to folk to country. One of America’s most gifted living songwriters, he is singing better than he ever has, working harder.

“I’m a firm believer that rock & roll only becomes an art-form because of the lyrics. If it hadn’t been for Bob Dylan wanting to be John Lennon and John Lennon wanting to be Bob Dylan, it wouldn’t have been cranked up to the level of literature that makes it OK for rock & roll to be taken seriously”, says Earle.

For one glorious night please join some of the premier storytellers in the Hudson Valley as we regale you with tales that must include the line SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER. For 15 years, the Woodstock Bookfest Story Slams have been consistently wild nights of merriment. There’s a gong. And a timer. And sometimes there are tears!

The winners receive an overflowing bag of goodies— books, sweets, gift certificates from area restaurants. The storytellers write their hearts out.

We are thrilled to be bringing this one to the iconic and newly redone Bearsville Theater.
