concerts. Led by interim conductor Dennis English and accompanied by Gail Johnson, this season’s repertoire will include a program of American music, ranging from the early 19th Century to Broadway hits to music from Dr. Gwyneth Walker.

Dr. Walker, an internationally esteemed, award-winning American composer, will be in the Chorale’s audience this month to hear her own new music performed. She has been an important friend and musical colleague of the Warwick Valley Chorale for more than a decade, and dedicated her brilliant, touching song, “The Wings of a Dove,” to the memory of the Chorale’s longtime conductor Stanley Curtis following his tragic death from COVID in 2020. This will be the fifth concert in which Dr. Walker’s music figures prominently, including her arrangement of the group’s signature piece, “Down to the River to Pray,” which the Chorale commissioned from her in 2015.

Sunday Evening Jazz
with Sasha Dobson | "Girl Talk"

Sasha Dobson is a member of Puss n Boots, a popular alt-country trio whose personnel also includes Norah Jones and Catherine Popper.

On Girl Talk, Dobson focuses on jazz, and the trio that functions as the core group includes Peter Bernstein, who earns an A+ for his sensitive accompaniment and soloing on the record. Dobson grew up listening to jazz, and Girl Talk isn’t so much a departure for the singer as a heartfelt return to her roots. The retro album cover (dig the pale green wall rotary telephone) suggests a nod to mid-century pop culture.

Dobson’s whimsical duet with Norah Jones on Neal Hefti’s “Girl Talk” is good for a laugh, “Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps” has its own charms, and you may also get a kick out of “These Boots Are Made for Walking.” Interestingly, Dobson doesn’t ratchet up the kitsch element on these cuts, instead allowing her smoky voice to set the scene. Formats for Girl Talk include vinyl, and you might want to shelve the album between, say, some old Doris Day and Nancy Wilson LPs—in other words, albums by pop singers with a jazz foundation who were popular when rotary phones were all the rage.

Stephen Clair 'To The Trees' Album ReleaseThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Clair's brilliant new album To the Trees, focuses on home, looking to his own leafy backyard , taking his trusty Martin up and down the fertile Hudson Valley, planting seeds along the way.

"Clair's talents—deadpan delivery, keen wordsmithing, and deceptively intricate fretwork—are at the fore,
shining through ..." — Chronogram Magazine

VIDEO: Let It Out: https://youtu.be/x08FGFB0Wzo

http://stephenclair.com/

Once the essence of the itinerant troubadour, writing and performing his songs from Seattle to the south of France, Stephen Clair’s been everywhere, man. And the songs (and albums) just keep coming. 2019 saw his supercharged Strange Perfume album, produced by Malcolm Burn, and in 2020, mid-pandemic, Clair released The Small Hours LP. The accolades did overflow.

Relocating from Brook Brooklyn to Pete Seeger’s quieter lair of Beacon over a decade ago, the peripatetic Clair, with his brilliant new album To the Trees, has decided to focus his sights on home, looking to his own leafy backyard not just for inspiration, but for perspiration, too—taking his trusty Martin up and down the fertile Hudson Valley, planting seeds along the way.

A family man now, the father of teenagers, Clair largely built this, his 9th and most personal album yet, from the rumblings within the four walls of his 19th century corner homestead, a former general store.

Clair’s library, filled with Samuel Beckett, Dorothy Parker and E.B. White, again inspires, with the title track paying deference to Italo Calvino’s The Baron in the Trees—the song’s subject walking out on a family meal to live out her days amidst the limbs.

Music aficionado Stephen Clair is renowned in Beacon NY as the driving force behind concerts of all sizes, and is the founder of the Beacon Music Factory, which teaches music to as many adults as it does kids. These endeavors hardly stand in the way of Clair’s own music-making. His current 5-piece band adds significant spice to Clair’s catalog, and lifts the songs—new and old - to the rafters.

FEATURING ~:

Guitar star Dylan Doyle delights audiences, but frustrates anyone trying to define his sound....It isn’t the 19-year-old’s job to define it. It’s his job to play it. And that’s what the Dylan Doyle Band will do..." - Wisconsin News

http://www.dylandoyleband.com/

Based in the Hudson Valley, rising star Dylan Doyle has been performing nationally, as well as internationally. Southern bred, northern raised, his trio’s style of music lies somewhere between roots rock and jam funk. It evokes Woodstock and dips into southern soul; a uniquely American sound.

Touring nationally since age 15, Dylan became a seasoned professional while relatively young. He has played with notable musicians such as, Rob Stoner (Bob Dylan, Don Mclean), John Platania (Van Morrison, Natalie Merchant), Ben Cauley (Otis Redding) and Bill Payne (Little Feat).

Stoner called Dylan one of the most prodigious players he has known, with abundant natural talent. John Platania has referred to Dylan as “The Future.” Ben Cauley, after playing with Dylan in Memphis said, “Dylan Doyle sounds like a young Jimi Hendrix.” In the words of Bill Payne upon sharing the stage, “Music is a conversation. Dylan spoke beautifully and was listening to the musicians around him. His play was imaginative and original.”

Attesting to Dylan’s versatility, Dylan has played the King Biscuit Blues Festival three consecutive years as well headlining the Grateful Garcia Gathering, the largest Grateful Dead festival in the Midwest. He consistently packs houses across Europe and the US.
