Bassist, bandleader and producer Richie Goods released his seminal album with his band The Goods Project, entitled My Left Hand Man (2019). The consummate bassist’s third album as a bandleader, My Left Hand Man, is a tribute to Goods’ late mentor Mulgrew Miller.

“Mulgrew is the person that really put me on the scene and helped me establish a name for myself. It was a real learning experience playing with him.”

The bassist toured and recorded with Miller for nine fruitful years. Goods’ tenure with Miller spurred a career that would eventually see the bass player performing with luminaries Alicia Keys, Common, Chris Botti, Whitney Houston and the Headhunters to name a few.

Chien Chien Lu is a vibraphonist, contemporary percussionist, and composer whose passion for R&B grooves crystallizes into a fresh and distinctive approach to contemporary jazz.

Lu’s fierce authenticity and jazz mastery shine bright on her debut solo project, The Path (2020) which earned numerous awards and led to Lu’s being named the “vibraphone rising star” in Downbeat Magazine’s 69th Annual Critics Poll.

In 2017, she attended the prestigious Banff Jazz Residency under the direction of jazz pianist, Vijay Iye, where she first met jazz trumpeter Jeremy Pelt. From there, Lu began to perform regularly in the U.S. and was invited to join the esteemed Jeremey Pelt Quintet. Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online and on the radio, NY   See Map
Steve Madewell has been a working musician for more than fifty years.
He has performed throughout Ohio with destination shows in multiple states and several other countries. He also enjoyed a career in the public sector working for regional park systems where he supervised and directed a host of park operations including land acquisition and environmental education. He has worked on the development of dozens of park facilities and been involved with the permanent protection of thousands of acres of open space.  While still actively engaged with conservation organizations he concluded a remarkable conservation career to focus on writing, recording, and performing music. Steve’s songs have a deeply personal edge to them. He uses music as a tool to celebrate his appreciation of nature. His songs frequently feature a story set in a well described landscape or place. This gives the listener a sense that they are visiting the setting through the music.

David Amram Quartet | "Back with Jack"The FALCON

Marlboro, NY   See Map
"Back with Jack: a special presentation to celebrate the year of Kerouac's Centennial - with the David Amram Quartet, and narrated by Adira Amram reading excerpts from Jack Kerouac's "On the Road".

FEATURING ~
Adira Adira Amram / Narrator
David Amram / Leader, Vocals, Piano, Flutes, Percussion, French Horn.
Kevin Twigg / Drums, Glockenspiel
Rene Hart / Upright Bass
Adam Amram / Congas

www.davidamram.com

Amram, the Renaissance man of American Music, still refers to himself as a "promising young composer".

This performance is Amram's tribute to the influence of Jazz and Global music on author Jack Kerouac's writing style, as well as portraits of the great innovators such as Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie long before most major journalists or authors appreciated these giants.

Amram was Kerouac's major musical collaborator and friend for 12 years, is playing concerts worldwide celebrating the enduring value of Kerouac's writing and the enduring spirit of the music that continues to inspire us today.

Since their first public jazz/poetry readings in NYC in 1957, Amram has continued to celebrate the spirit of inclusiveness and spontaneity in all the idioms which he and Kerouac cherished - jazz, Latin, world music, classical music festivals and his his symphonic and chamber music compositions.

"The Falcon is the kind of place where I first met Jack and so many other truly gifted people the mid 1950s
People felt welcome and there were no A-tables MUSIC was the star and reason why we all got together and felt at home.

These small places that were all across America, reflecting the communities and cultures of the innovators were the home of music that has endured and survived neglect and disrespect, the collapse of the music industry and become our ambassador world wide, showing our Beauty Part!

This tradition is why all musicians who have ever performed at the Falcon want to come back and why all who attend are grateful and enthusiastic that Tony Falco's dream of having all genres of music built to last has now become a reality.

it s always a joy to play there as well as to come and listen to others"

- David Amram - "a promising young composer"

June 3–4. An ode to the richness of Nigerian culture—”Re:INCARNATION” celebrates the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth and Africa’s powers of reinvention in a show that draws on Afrobeats, Afro dances, and Black aesthetics. Tickets $40; $35 for PS21 members (plus ticketing fee waived)

Opening PS21’s 2022 summer season on June 3–4, the QDance Company’s “Re:INCARNATION” is a 2021 dance, music, fashion, and visual art creation that showcases the depth of ancient Yoruba philosophy, mixed with the current Nigerian youth culture and its pure and uncompromising joy. Ten young dancers and two musicians perform the cycle of life with explosive energy, marked by the urban chaos of the Nigerian mega-city, Lagos.

“Re:INCARNATION” pays homage to the wealth and profusion of Nigerian music, its Afro-beat roots being currently revisited by dancehall, hip-hop, and electro. This musical genre, introduced and popularized by Fela Kuti, was born of an explosive cocktail of jazz, soul, funk, and tra

Jeffery Broussard & The Creole CowboysThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Jeffery Broussard is the real deal. Dedicated to preserving and promoting Creole culture and traditional Zydeco music, with passion and commitment...an energetic, toe tapping world of the American Roots Music called Zydeco.

"Jeffery Broussard has long been respected as one of the greatest accordion players to grace our Creole culture, and for that matter, the world." - Don Cravins, Sr., Mayor, Opelousas, LA, Zydeco Capital of the World

VIDEO: I'm Coming Home: https://youtu.be/NUF_iSpnlHs

http://creolecowboys.com/

Jeffery Broussard is one of the most influential accordionists and vocalists in modern Zydeco music and continues to be one of the genre’s most dynamic performers and innovators.

Born in Lafayette, LA, Jeffery’s music career started very early, playing drums in his father’s band, the renowned Delton Broussard & The Lawtell Playboys. Although he left school for farm work to help his parents, Jeffery would sneak in to the house, get his daddy’s accordion and teach himself to play. It was in his brother Clinton’s band, Clinton Broussard & The Zydeco Machines that Jeffery played in public for the first time.

It is possible that without the experience of struggle and hard times that he could not sing, play with emotion and soul. His range is seldom seen in Zydeco - traditional songs of the old masters to originals, singlenote and triple-note accordion to fiddle.

Whether he is playing a festival stage in front of thousands of dancers, a small theater of seated patrons, giving an interview, teaching a lesson or playing at a trailride, his warmth, love of the music, and talent shine. Jeffery Broussard is well, the real deal. Dedicated to preserving and promoting the Creole culture and traditional Zydeco music, Jeffery plays with passion and commitment to carry on his daddy’s legacy.

Ella and Frank, Big Band Style
with The Big Band Sound jazz orchestra
Swing/Jump, Big Band, Musical Theater, and Jazz
Freedom Park Bandshell
212 Skidmore Road
Lagrangeville, NY   See Map
On this weekend in June, the Freedom Park Bandshell in LaGrangeville will be the venue for a swinging "Ella and Frank, Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra, including six vocalists and swing dance performers, and it will benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity. Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra collectively recorded more than three thousand different songs during the Golden Age of Popular Music. This original show will spotlight the best of those songs: the songs at the core of the Great American Songbook, all in the most exciting setting of a live big band. Performances are Friday, June 3rd at 6 p.m. and Saturday, June 4th at 6 p.m. and although tickets won't be required for entry, the suggested donation is $20 per person with proceeds benefiting the Sparrow's Nest charity. Bring folding chairs and blankets, and note that if it should rain, the performance will take place under the cover of the large picnic pavilion adjacent to the bandshell.

Still Married After All These Years!
with The Ed Palermo Big Band
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The world's zaniest big band celebrates the wedding anniversary of their madcap, mischief-making leader, by re-forming the music of Zappa, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson...with comic diversions, because they can't help it!.

"Wonderful, breathtaking, fantastic, exhilarating, great sound, great production, great musicianship...I run out of superlatives..." – paradoxone.uk

"[Ed Palermo]...one of the greatest musicians and arrangers in the world."
– Christian McBride, American jazz bassist, and six-time Grammy Award winner

"Palermo developed these charts during years of live shows with these musicians, and their mastery of the material shows in the performances, which turn on a dime yet feel fierce with spontaneous invention.... Palermo’s arrangements and these performances are precise, dedicated, raucous and incisive—just like Zappa himself." – JazzTimes

https://www.palermobigband.com/

This eighteen-piece ensemble - five woodwind players, four trumpeters, three trombonists, two keyboardists, guitar, violin, bass, drums, and vocalists throughout - has been performing jazz arrangements of Zappa’s music regularly since 1994. But what started out as faithfully antic versions of the composer’s complex, fiendishly clever music has expanded to reflect Palermo’s passion for Todd Rundgren, British psychedelia and progressive rock.

This often entails head-spinning in-jokes, such as performing Traffic’s 1971 tune “The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys” over Zappa’s bass line for his composition “Chunga’s Revenge.”

The Ed Palermo Big Band performs monthly at the Iridium in Manhattan and regularly at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY, where Palermo often scripts elaborate thematic evenings. At one such event, vocalist Napoleon Murphy Brock—a longtime Zappa vocalist who frequently works with Palermo—sang the line “I’m never getting married” (from Jimmy Webb’s “The Worst That Could Happen”) as Palermo stumbled onstage in prison stripes for an evening dedicated to his 34th wedding anniversary.

Most of Palermo’s humor, however, lies in the music’s richly textured citations and juxtapositions. The scores themselves are funny.

“I wouldn’t call my thing a comedy show,” he said, “but it’s got a lot of humor in it. I often think that jazz takes itself way too seriously. Maybe that makes my thing stand out a little more.”
