Saturday 7:00 pm | Ozmosys! | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
‘Ozmosys sound like a jazz group fit for the 21st century. This was actually a perfect example of power jazz at its very best’ - Jazz Journal / Roger Farley
FEATURING ~ Omar Hakim / Drums Rachel Z Hakim / Keys Chogyi Lama / Guitar Jonathan Toscano / Bass https://ozmosysband.com/ EPK: https://youtu.be/r5XqvqVV8g4 This quartet project was bound to cause a stir and they never disappoint. While they might be likened to associated groups such as Weather Report, the sound dynamics, is nearer to Chick Corea’s Return To Forever in its 1970s heyday. The music is rock-infused and possesses great warmth and lyricism. The quartet released the EP Eyes To The Future Vol. 1 (2019). Hakim is building it naturally - Ozmosys by osmosis. There's a powerful rhythm section, machine-like on some songs. Everyone seems to be contributing to the writing. Rachel Z's keyboards, synthesizers and effects are what define the sound. Sunday 7:00 pm | Sunday Evening Jazz with Adam O'Farrill's Stranger Days | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Presented by
Absolutely Live Entertainment. Curated by Danny Melnick "Adam O'Farrill likes to mix his music, as befits a New Yorker of Cuban, Mexican, Jewish, African-American, German, Irish heritage. His music affirms that a diverse population feeds a robust culture." - NPR “Marshaling a sharp band of his peers, Mr. O’Farrill establishes both a firm identity and a willful urge to stretch and adapt.”. - The New York Times YEKERMO SEW: https://youtu.be/IhP-kKDAJVs NIGHT DREAMER: https://youtu.be/rZytGi1sEqs https://www.adam-ofarrill.com/ Adam O'Farrill - whose father and grandfather are Latin jazz royalty - is a trumpet player and composer from Brooklyn, NY. He has performed and/or recorded with artists such as Rudresh Mahanthappa, Mary Halvorson, Arturo O'Farrill, Mulatu Astatke, Brasstracks, Stephan Crump, Onyx Collective, Anna Webber, and Samora Pinderhughes. As a composer and bandleader, and his quartet, Stranger Days, made their eponymous debut (2016) inspired by film and literature, while the follow-up album, El Maquech (2018, Biophilia Records) covered everything from Mexican folk music to Irving Berlin, as well as O'Farrill's original compositions. O'Farrill comes from a rich musical background, with his grandfather being the Afro-Cuban-Irish composer and arranger Chico O'Farrill, his father being the cultural boundary-pushing composer and pianist Arturo O'Farrill, his mother Alison Deane being a classical pianist and educator, and his brother Zack O'Farrill being a drummer, composer, and educator. Adam is of Mexican, Cuban, and Irish heritage on his dad's side, and Eastern European Jewish and African-American on his mom's side. This, combined with growing up in a place of immense cultural diversity, has shaped his tendency to break stylistic borders within not only his original music, but also in terms of who he works with. O'Farrill was subject of an article in Jazztimes entitled, “Adam O'Farrill Does Not Play Latin Jazz”, where he spoke about the unfair treatment and pigeonholing of Latinx musicians.

His proper debut release under his own name, ‘If You Knew My Mind,’ earned rave reviews, with the New Orleans Times Picayune writing that “his character-based narratives are guaranteed to make you ache and exult” and Exclaim! calling it “a Southern gothic tour de force.” After Hurricane Katrina forced Capps to relocate to Franklin, TN, he went on to release a string of similarly exalted albums that earned him devoted followings in both the US and Europe.
