Sunday 7:00 pm | Sunday Evening Jazz with Samara Joy w/ The Pasquale Grasso Trio | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Presented by
Absolutely Live Entertainment. Curated by Danny Melnick “You'd never suspect the power she packs!” - — Keanna Faircloth, WBGO Celebrating the release of her self-titled debut, Samara Joy performs jazz standards and songs from the Great American Songbook. She is joined by Pasquale Grasso, an exciting and distinctive jazz guitarist. FEATURING ~ Samara Joy ~ Vocals Pasquale Grasso ~ Guitar Ari Roland ~ Bass Keith Balla ~ Drums https://samarajoy.com/home Although having only recently celebrated her 21st birthday, Samara has already performed in many of the great jazz venues in NYC, including Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, The Blue Note, and Mezzrow, in addition to working with jazz greats such as Christian McBride, Pasquale Grasso, Kirk Lightsey, Cyrus Chestnut, and NEA Jazz Master Dr. Barry Harris. On her eponymous debut album, she delivers straightforward renditions of better and lesser-known jazz standards, including “Stardust,” “Everything Happens to Me,” and “But Beautiful.” With an attentive and polished guitar trio the arrangements are consistently straightforward, yet the album is quite special, and it seems to me that Joy played her cards right by launching her recording career with a no-frills debut and making sure that her voice remains the center of attention. There’s poetry in her phrasing, and she sounds natural and unforced. You’ll hear a resemblance to Sarah Vaughan; you’ll also hear the voice of someone who will continue to claim our attention. Sweetening the pot, the dexterous guitar fills by Grasso assure us that the band is also very much in the moment. Pasquale Grasso https://www.pasqualegrasso.com

Sunday 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm | The Rough And Tumble Singer-Songwriter. Classic Folk | Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts Online and on the radio, NY See Map |
The Rough & Tumble are as easy to detect as a stray dog on your doorstep-- and as difficult to send home. The dumpster-folk, thriftstore-Americana duo, consisting of Mallory Graham & Scott Tyler and their menagerie of instruments, have been hobbling around the country in their 16ft camper with their two dogs since 2015, taking their songs to the far corners of the US and to the little towns they pass along the way. Their new EP, Love Is Gross...but it looks good on you, is a "fun project of kinda, sorta love songs" released just in time for Valentine's Day 2022. This comes on the heels of We're Only Family If You Say So, the 2021 album about what it means to be family, and what it means to lose it. With singles debuting on American Songwriter, The Bluegrass Situation and Grateful Web referring to the album as "a must listen," it has been embraced by fans for its stark honesty, unique storytelling and well-crafted melodies, especially at a time when families are deeply divided.

Meet Son Rompe Pera, Mexico’s Finest Psychobilly Marimberos!
Video: Son Rompe Pera - Pájaro Cenzontle: https://youtu.be/Qh0s-UytRKY Video: Son Rompe Pera | Cumbia Algarrobera: https://youtu.be/LhIKftW0XYQ Son Rompe Pera https://sonrompepera.bandcamp.com/ Son Rompe Pera’s unique fusion of classic cumbia rhythms with garage-band-punk ....encourages you to break all the rules of traditional dance to just move whichever way your body feels....the vocals take twists and turns as rebellious as punk music itself....they’ve already broken all the rules themselves, so....let your hair loose and dance whichever way the music takes you!”- TIGRESOUNDS “If punk is more about attitude than conforming to a single specific style, Kacho and Mongo unquestionably have it in spades as they draw on modern cumbia and garage rock in their interpretations of traditional and popular songs and styles from Mexico, Peru, Colombia, and beyond.” - POPMATTERS Born & raised in the outskirts of Mexico City, the Gama brothers are keeping alive the legacy of marimba music with their latest project, Son Rompe Pera (the only band of its kind in the world). While firmly rooted in the tradition of this historic instrument, their fresh take on this iconic folk music challenges its limits, moving it into the garage/punk world of urban misfits. Mexico City’s Son Rompe Pera began performing at local events alongside their father when they were kids, accompanying him on the traditional Mexican marimba. Today, they are at the forefront of the contemporary international cumbia scene, as they take what they learned in their youth to new heights and push the marimba to its limits. Their absolutely unique blend of sounds comes as the result of a typical youthful rebellion, when as teenagers they left behind their marimba upbringing and began to playing various punk and psychobilly bands. Now they´ve come full circle, incorporating the marimba together with their rock influences, giving it a new twist never before seen. The band released their debut LP in March 2020, but the global lockdown didn’t stop them from growing their fan base, as they were present in virtual events like Mole de Mayo in Chicago and the World Music Institute's end-of-year celebration, as well as online festivals in Ecuador, Italy, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia.

Thursday 7:00 pm | Sexmob! | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Sexmob continues to deconstruct familiar pop tunes with subversive impunity. Everything from Prince’s “Sign O’ the Times” to John Barry’s “Goldfinger”, is fair game.
FEATURING ~ Steven Bernstein / Slide trumpet Briggan Krauss / Saxophones Tony Scherr / Bass Kenny Wollesen / Drums https://www.stevenbernstein.net/projects Bernstein is explicit about Sexmob not being a cover band. ”Covers to me means you play it exactly like the record,” he explains. “I just take songs that I feel have a great melody and do them in my style. So I’ll pick a tune and tell the guys, ‘Let’s Sexmob this!’ And I realize that's what jazz musicians have always done. That’s how Lester Young and Charlie Parker and Miles Davis got popular. They played the songs that everyone knew. And because they could recognize the song then that invited them into their style." The fact that Bernstein exclusively plays slide trumpet in Sexmob gives the quartet an even more distinctive edge. As he puts it, “When you play the trumpet, Louis Armstrong is the king. But when I play the slide trumpet, I’m the king. It’s my voice. On trumpet, there’s no escaping Armstrong and Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, Lester Bowie…all those cats. But on slide trumpet, it’s just me.” Sexmob came together in 1996 in a weekly residency at the Knitting Factory Tap Room and in 1998 released its debut, Din of Inequity. They followed with 2000’s Solid Sender, 2001’s Sex Mob Does Bond, 2003’s Dime Grind Palace, 2006’s Sexotica, 2009’s Sex Mob Meets Medeski: Live in Willisau and 2013’s Cinema, Circus & Spaghetti: Sex Mob Plays Fellini. The group’s latest, Cultural Capital, is the first Sexmob recording to feature all Bernstein original compositions. “Some of them, like ‘Bari Si,’ ‘Step Apache’ and ‘Syrup’ are through-composed like Jelly Roll Morton pieces,” he explains. “And some like ‘4 Cents’ and ‘Street’ and are more jammy, where we take a little idea — a line or a groove — and just develop it.” Bernstein and his Sexmob crew continue to push the envelope in delightfully subversive ways on their fiercely independent, self-produced new outing, Cultural Capital. Bernstein’s on-stage antics and the band’s amazing musicianship are the focal points. They never rehearse. They never have a set list. Things are constantly fresh. Dr. Walker, an internationally esteemed, award-winning American composer, will be in the Chorale’s audience this month to hear her own new music performed. "Songs imbued with mystical stirrings and idealism… they take the stage by storm!” – The New York Times
“They have an air of both Floyd and maybe Bowie at times atop their folk-country-roots (note, not faux-country)....with a warmth and comfort of a mystical Nebraska or poetic Crazy Horse.” – Sleazegrinder, UK “The entire root system of Rock Family Trees is embedded in Longo’s voice.”- The Big Issue, Scotland, UK The Slambovian Circus of Dreams www.slambovia.com www.facebook.com/theslamboviancircusofdreams www.twitter.com/slambovia www.youtube.com/slambovia www.soundcloud/slambovia The Slambovian Circus of Dreams - collectively - are pioneers of the Americana genre, equal parts Washington Irving and Woodstock, tapping styles ranging from dusty Americana ballads to huge Pink Floydesque cinematic anthems.
