Dylan spoke beautifully and was listening to the musicians around him. His play was imaginative and original.” Attesting to Dylan’s versatility, Dylan has played the King Biscuit Blues Festival three consecutive years as well headlining the Grateful Garcia Gathering, the largest Grateful Dead festival in the Midwest. Saturday 7:00 pm | Split Bill... with Johnny Society | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
"They're just so... GOOD. Music you can sink your teeth into. Music that's like the best hamburger you ever ate."
Houston Chronicle Johnny Society is everything surviving classic rock bands haven't been since their '60s and '70s heydays: rocking, funky and soulful. - Entertainment Weekly "This New York quartet adds a dash of Queen's power pomp to its Cheap Trick-inspired ironic lyrics and coolly abrasive melodies. Here's a band unafraid to rock like punk never happened." - Relix Magazine While you¹re wasting arena money on classic-rock dinosaurs, pop maestros Johnny Society are producing the transcendent rock & roll magic you really crave. Get a refund, and buy this and the JS catalog. - The Village Voice Popular Man: https://youtu.be/qVYK-r5oTsM http://www.johnnysociety.com/ "Johnny Society is led by a songwriting machine with a rock star's voice." - The New York Times Johnny Society frontman Kenny Siegal is a madman on guitar, piano and harpsichord, plowing through wild arrangements that hearken back to ambitiously orchestrated 70s arena rock, touching on glam and a soulful strain of Britpop that evokes modern bands like Oasis as well as some oldies.New Music Monthly-Steve Klinge Johnny Society's Kenny Siegal subscribes to the "more is more" school of songwriting. His songs twist and turn at odd and unexpected angles, conflating styles and eras, but often creating something coherent and stirring. on their fourth album, Life Behind the 21st Century Wall, the New York quartet gravitates to swampy blues, elastic honky tonk, slinky blue-eyed soul and pounding rock, sometimes within the space of a song. Johnny Society's prodigy Kenny Siegal's four-piece of sonic thrill-seekers, are already delivering, destined to find a reward in rock n' roll heaven some day for their honesty, style and amazing songwriting. To put it simply, without any exaggeration, Johnny Society can make even the most cynical listener love pop music. Johnny Society's album, Life Behind The 21st Century Wall, is rich in sly, gritty soul and heavy blues drunk on funk and sexy shuffle, a potion that hits you in the heart and bones.
Saturday 7:00 pm | Split Bill... with The Mommyheads | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
Age of Isolation: https://youtu.be/mhVhly6oAWA
The Mommyheads https://www.mommyheads.com/ FEATURING ~ Adam Elk – guitar, vocal, plus occasional mandolin, melodica, autoharp, piano Michael Holt – keyboards, vocals, occasional guitar Dan Fisherman – drums, harmony vocals Jason McNair – bass Jackie Simons – guitar , keys While there’s no misunderstanding why The Mommyheads chose the title AGE OF ISOLATION (2021) for their second album in two years. It’s also no surprise the band still sounds as creatively charismatic as we’ve come to expect from this experienced NYC four-piece. The band led by the hooking and idiosyncratic vocals of Adam Elk, maintains an alt-rock flair that contains brushes of Grandaddy, Flaming Lips, and XTC rolled up its own intelligent modern hue of musical colors. 30-plus years into their formation the band has made many great records despite a lengthy hiatus, Age of Isolation is their strongest to date. And of course, you can never say they sound like their heroes as they’ve been doing this just as long as anybody- now is the time The Mommyheads get their well-earned due. The Mommyheads songwriting chops remain unparalleled as in the first song with its stick in your head anthem roaring: “it’s a brave new world/where everyone’s a winner/your always free to tune out and eat your tv dinner.” Mommyheads avoid lyrical cliches and triumph with the album’s loose theme of our society of becoming preoccupied with being safe/secure that we’re forgetting how to connect. Imagine if the most alienating prog bands actually wrote sing-alongs? The Mommyhead’s fill this demanding niche. Age of Isolation will serve as a musical timestamp: an accompaniment of survival and prevailing during the most messed up of times.

Sunday 7:00 pm | Sunday Evening Jazz with Lew Tabackin Trio | 82nd B'Day Concert | The FALCON 1348 Route 9W Marlboro, NY See Map |
FEATURING ~
Lew Tabackin / Flute & Saxophone Yasushi Nakamura / Bass Jason Tiemann / Drums Video: Lew Tabackin Trio | The Man I Love: https://youtu.be/ug3bXRCV6FE https://www.lewtabackin.com/ The legendary Lew Tabackin is one of the few jazz musicians who has been able to develop completely different musical personalities on two instruments. As a tenor saxophonist, he is a hard-driving, tough-toned player reminiscent of Sonny Rollins, Don Byas, and sometimes, tone-wise, Ben Webster. But as a flutist, he sounds like a highly expressive master of Asian classical music. Whether heard as the main soloist with his wife Toshiko Akiyoshi's Jazz Orchestra or jamming with a small group, Tabackin has been a masterful player for the past several decades. In NY in 1965, he worked with Maynard Ferguson, the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Joe Henderson, Elvin Jones, and the Tonight Show Band, among others. After marrying Toshiko Akiyoshi, he toured Japan with her (1970-1971). When they moved to LA in 1972, they formed her orchestra, which, thanks to Akiyoshi's arrangements and Tabackin's solo talents, became one of the top jazz big bands. In 1982, they relocated to NY, where the orchestra has continued on a part-time basis. Lew Tabackin has since played in many different small groups, remaining a brilliant improviser. Mr.Tabackin has also been associated with several all-star bands, including George Wein's Newport All-Star Band, the New York Jazz Giants, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. https://www.yasushinakamurabass.com/about “One of the most commanding voices on bass today” Yasushi Nakamura is praised for imaginative, quicksilver bass lines that deepen the groove. His blend of guitar-like precision and gut-level blues has sparked collaborations with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Hank Jones, Dave Douglas, Steve Miller, etc. With his charismatic stage presence and artful, hard swinging melodic touch, Nakamura is a first-call performer capturing new audiences and fans around the world. https://jasontiemann.com/ NY City based jazz drummer, Jason Tiemann maintains a busy schedule as a freelance performer and educator. Admittedly drawing influence from the great(s) Philly Joe Jones, Tony Williams, Elvin Jones and Billy Higgins, Tiemann is quickly forging his musical voice on the New York scene by fusing his depth of historical foundation with crisp technique and propulsive, intuitive swing.
Sunday 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm | Doug Kolmar Singer-Songwriter, Americana, and Folk/Traditional | Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts Online and on the radio, NY See Map |
Doug Kolmar is an award-winning singer/songwriter based near Portland, ME. His songs are notable for their ability to uncover large truths through small details. Growing up in the suburbs of New York City, with parents who worked in theatre, he was steeped in the music of Broadway and Tin Pan Alley from an early age. A varied musical journey followed, including jazz guitar studies, stints in rock and blues bands, and a Master’s Degree in Music Composition from NYU. Since moving to Maine 20 years ago, he has focused on writing and performing songs that connect with audiences by telling stories of everyday struggles, with warmth, empathy, and a touch of dark humor. He regularly performs around New England as a solo artist and with the Folk/Americana group, Arcadia Band. So Said Life, his fourth solo album will be available in April 2022.
