Hailed by The New Yorker as “one of the finest, most searching songwriters of the day,” Gabriel Kahane has often approached his work from the vantage point of an observer. But now, for the first time since 2011 he’s telling his own story. With MAGNIFICENT BIRD, his fifth solo LP and second album for Nonesuch Records, Kahane brings to life a trunk of songs written in self-imposed isolation—a full year off the internet—with the help of a dozen colleagues, including Andrew Bird, Chris Thile, Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw, whose long-distance contributions were made possible, paradoxically, through the very technology he had shunned.
In October 2020—the final month of his digital hiatus, and a resolutely chaotic period in the United States—he set out to write a song every day. “I wanted to create an aural brain scan at the end of this experiment,” he explains, “and to give myself permission to write about small things, rather than trying to distill the enormity of the moment into grand statements.”
Not only that: Kahane’s daily practice, with its attendant stream-of-consciousness, gives us a window into a mercurial mind associating freely. |

 Born in Havana, Cuba, Tony Leon launched his singing career with Los Melodicos. He went on to work with the Niño Rivera Group and the distinguished Modelo de Miguelito Cuni band.
Tony was the soloist for renowned trumpeter and orchestra leader Alfredo 'Chocolate' Armenteros. Their album, Prefiero el Son, recorded with S.A.R. Records, went gold. His years with Chocolate included group concerts, where he worked alongside music greats such as Roberto Torres, Linda Leida, Papaito, Alfredito de la Fe, Alfredo Valdes, Jr. and Marino Solano.
In 1987, he became the lead singer for José Fajardo y Sus Estrellas. It was the legendary flutist and band leader, José Antonio Fajardo who gave Tony his title: El Leon del Bolero.
Tony has performed in concerts with Willie Chirino, Ray Baretto, David Valentino, Cachao, Hansel y Raul, Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco. He continues to delight audiences with his unique voice and mastery of the bolero.

 The Music from Copland House ensemble starts their new residency at the Emelin Theater with an eclectic, entertaining program spotlighting 100 years of music by Westchester natives and transplants. The concert features music from a trio of Pulitzer Prize winners (Aaron Copland, Joan Tower, and Samuel Barber), Old and New World masters (Charles Tomlinson Griffes and Pierre Jalbert) and one genuine, undefinable maverick (Percy Grainger). Michael Leonhart, is the the GRAMMY-winning trumpeter, composer, producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and Steely Dan and Mark Ronson collaborator
The 15-piece Michael Leonhart Orchestra (MLO), has been putting on electrifying shows since 2016, including monthly "In Residence" performances at Jazz Standard in NYC.
The genre-crossing albums "The Painted Lady Suite" (2018) and "Suite Extracts Vol.1" (2019), were critically acclaimed. The NY Times called "The Painted Lady Suite" "A seductive record that finds a balance between magnificence and melancholy." The MLO's third album "The Norman Suites" was completed during the pandemic and was released in 2021.
The orchestra performs Leonhart's original compositions as well as his arrangements of Wu-Tang Clan, Fela, Ellington, Zappa and Bernard Herrmann. The MLO features players from bands such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, The Mingus Big Band, Maria Schneifer's Orchestra, The Tonight Show Band (Roots) and other soloists from the NY/Brooklyn Jazz/Soul/Studio Scene. |

 Singer-songwriter pianist Jeffery Straker grew up taking piano lessons in a small farming town and has gone on to perform over 100 shows per year across Canada, Europe and Latin America. The storytelling nature of his songs has the power to transport a listener - out onto a lake in Canada’s North or to the main street of a prairie town. Critical comparisons have been drawn to the likes of Harry Chapin, Kris Kristofferson, & Billy Joel while performances have seen him live on BBC radio in the UK, on stage with symphony orchestras and in backyards across Canada on his recent summer tour. “He has a way of drawing us into his world and making us feel like we’re a welcome guest; an old friend he’s ready to catch up with” (CBC Saskatchewan Weekend).
Jeffery’s songs have been used in TV, film and theatrical productions and saw him named “Roots-Folk Artist of the Year” in both the 2020 & 2021 Saskatchewan Music Awards & he took home a Western Canadian Music Award in 2019. |
