A special evening with a special ensemble of world class players, under the direction of Jay Collins!

www.jaycollinsband.com

The saxophone player of choice for famous artists such as Gregg Allman, Little Feat, (the late) Levon Helm, and Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen, Jay Collins played on two Grammy-winning recordings with Levon Helm, a platinum-selling DVD with the Allman Brothers Band (Live at the Beacon Theater), and was featured on horns and arrangments for the Grammy-nominated recording with Gregg Allman, “Southern Blood” (2017). Whether fronting his own band, The Northern Resistance, on lead vocals and sax, or blowing his horn in the bands of legendary musicians, Jay always delivers.

The Restless Age
https://restlessage.com

The Restless Age is a collaboration - a harmony of Will Bryant, Lee Falco and Brandon Morrison. Each player brings a unique song and voice to the bandstand, as the trio spans generations and genres.

As the house band for Amy Helm's 'Oh to be Home Again' at Levon Helm Studios, they performed behind Donald Fagen, John Sebastian and Graham Nash, as well as being Kate Pierson's (The B-52's) touring band in support of her 2015 debut album 'Guitars & Microphones’. During that same year they toured the U.S. & Canada supporting the The Waterboys and The Gipsy Kings along with fellow Hudson Valley singer-songwriter Connor Kennedy.

The Midnight Ramble Horns featuring:

Steve Bernstein/trumpet
Erik Lawrence/saxophones
Jay Collins/tenor saxophone

The Midnight Ramble Horns were born at Levon Helm Studios' legendary Midnight Ramble sessions in Woodstock NY, providing horns and arrangements for the stellar artists that graced Levon’s Barn. While continuing to perform at Helm Studios with people such as Jackson Brown and Mavis Staples, the horn section has recently toured with Little Feat.

Featuring Special Guest Scott Sharrard!

www.scottsharrard.com

Sharrard spent nearly a decade as lead guitarist and bandleader to the late Gregg Allman. Scott is currently working on his 6th solo album with longtime producing partner and Grammy winning engineer, Charlie Martinez.

In addition to touring all over the USA and the world with his band, Scott is the newest member of the legendary Rock and Roll Band Little Feat, and a new Little Feat album in 2021.

Evocative Jazz, Exotic Lounge
with Studio Stu and The Rhythm Method, Paul Duffy, Brian Melick
Jazz, Alternative, and Contemporary. Evocative Jazz, Exotic Lounge
Colony Cafe Beer Garden
22 Rock City Road
Woodstock, NY   See Map
The Rhythm Method is a wild ride through the interpretation of jazz music, a sort of, ‘Duja Vey’ (the feeling that none of this ever happened before).

This eccentric jazz quartet takes the very best in classic jazz and originals, and twists and bends them into what they call ‘jazz unstandards’. In this ‘quartetto virtuosi’, nothing is sacred.....improv is rampant...lyrics are changed at will...notes and chords are bent and perverted...familiar languages are obliterated....harmonies are sweet and sour perfection, and yet, serious, sophisticated and uncompromising in execution. The is one in-tune, out-of-tune, offbeat outfit.

"Popa Chubby’s a big man....but his music is much bigger....[Chubby will] continue carrying the torch for the blues....and put on a damn good show. What more can one say?" - Elmore

http://popachubby.wix.com/popachubby

Chubby took his cue from artists of the '60s, including Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, among others. In his early twenties, he worked for a while backing punk poet Richard Hell.
Chubby's first big break was winning a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON, a public radio station in Long Beach, California. He won New Artist of the Year, and opened the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992, and has been rocking audience with his bold approach to music ever since.

Chubby continues to play more than 200 club dates a year, and has released numerous albums worldwide, since. Most notably, his Sony/Okeh debut, 'Booty and the Beast', was produced by longtime Atlantic Records engineer/producer TOM DOWD, whose recordings by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, among others are legendary!

Popa Chubby latest album "Prime Cuts: The Very Best of the Beast from the East", is self-selected “greatest hits” collection includes favorite cuts from his nearly three decades of bringing his version of the blues to the people. No one can accuse Ted Horowitz (aka: Popa Chubby) of taking the easy route on his long musical journey, but in doing it “his way” he has managed to gather plenty of fans along the way. This collection is as much for them, as it is for Popa Chubby.

The Extinctionist
with Heartbeat Opera
Classical/Opera
PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century
2980 Route 66, Chatham, NY, 12037
Chatham, NY   See Map
Heartbeat has commissioned its first new opera! The Extinctionist, composed by Daniel Schlosberg with a libretto by Amanda Quaid, will be developed in a semi-staged presentation in Spring 2021 at PS21 in Chatham, NY -- the premiere of the full production is planned for Spring 2022. The 60-minute one-act opera is scored for four singers and four multi-instrumentalist
players. Schlosberg’s music follows Quaid’s tightly-drawn libretto, from contemporary small talk to roiling dreamscape, its acute style encompassing witty gesture, expressionist stichomythia, and full-on dramatic pathos in the tradition of opera’s great mad scenes. Surrounded by apple orchards and acres of beautiful land, the open-air pavilion at PS21 is a poignant place to begin our journey on this piece questioning motherhood, climate collapse, and our relationship to
nature.

Featuring:

Steven Bernstein / Slide trumpet
Briggan Krauss / Saxophones
Tony Scherr / Bass
Kenny Wollesen / Drums

http://www.stevenbernstein.net/sexmob/

Celebrating 20+ years, Sexmob continues to deconstruct familiar pop tunes with subversive impunity. Everything from Prince’s “Sign O’ the Times” to John Barry’s “Goldfinger”, the Grateful Dead’s “Ripple”, Nirvana’s “About a Girl”, the Rolling Stones’ “Ruby Tuesday”, Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth”, Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” and ABBA’s “Fernando” is fair game for this band of musical renegades.

Bernstein is explicit about Sexmob not being a cover band. ”Covers to me means you play it exactly like the record,” he explains. “I just take songs that I feel have a great melody and do them in my style. So I’ll pick a tune and tell the guys, ‘Let’s Sexmob this!’ And I realize that's what jazz musicians have always done. That’s how Lester Young and Charlie Parker and Miles Davis got popular. They played the songs that everyone knew. And because they could recognize the song then that invited them into their style."

Sexmob came together in 1996 in a weekly residency at the Knitting Factory Tap Room and in 1998 released its debut, Din of Inequity. They followed with 2000’s Solid Sender, 2001’s Sex Mob Does Bond, 2003’s Dime Grind Palace, 2006’s Sexotica, 2009’s Sex Mob Meets Medeski: Live in Willisau and 2013’s Cinema, Circus & Spaghetti: Sex Mob Plays Fellini.

Cultural Capital, is the first Sexmob recording to feature all Bernstein original compositions. “Some of them, like ‘Bari Si,’ ‘Step Apache’ and ‘Syrup’ are through-composed like Jelly Roll Morton pieces,” he explains. “And some like ‘4 Cents’ and ‘Street’ and are more jammy, where we take a little idea — a line or a groove — and just develop it.”

Bernstein and his Sexmob crew continue to push the envelope in delightfully subversive ways on their fiercely independent, self-produced Cultural Capital.

Bernstein’s on-stage antics and the band’s amazing musicianship are the focal points. They never rehearse. They never have a set list. Things are constantly fresh.
