"One of the most inventive and ever-changing bands in all of new jazz" - Russ Davis, Jazz America

"....the lovechild of Pink Floyd and George Clinton, dropped in Marrakesh...deeply psychedelic...." - WNYC

www.ClubdElf.com

Club d'Elf has been helping audiences lose track of time since its first show twenty three years ago at Boston's Lizard Lounge, and since then has taken its bold synthesis of Moroccan traditional music and electronic, dubbed-out funk to audiences as far away as Japan and South America.

Circling about bassist/composer Mike Rivard and drummer Dean Johnston, each Club d'Elf performance features a different line-up, drawn from a constellation of some of the most creative improvisers from the jazz, DJ, rock & world music scenes of Boston and NYC. The band's music has been called "the music of dreams" by the Boston Globe, and draws from a startlingly wide spectrum of styles, including jazz, Moroccan Gnawa, hip hop, psychedelia, electronica, avant garde and dub.

Club d'Elf has been featured on PRI's The World, Voice Of America, and Afropop Worldwide, with Time Out New York describing the music as “The roaring avant-funk of electric-era Miles (and) the legato drift of the Grateful Dead…heady music that doesn’t neglect the tail”. The Boston Herald proclaimed “Crushed between the borders of Morocco, jam band land and the kingdom of avant-garde jazz lies Club d’Elf…James Brown-meets-Sun-Ra.”

John Medeski (Piano/Keyboards)
www.johnmedeski.com

John Medeski, of the genre-defying trio Medeski Martin & Wood, has garnered fans across the musical spectrum. Built upon jazz roots, electronics and rhythmic grooves.
Medeski’s recording credits include John Zorn, Iggy Pop, T Bone Burnett, Ray Lamontagne, Dan The Automator and k.d. Lang.

David Fiuczynski (fretted and fretless guitars)
www.davidfiuczynski.com/

Guitar shredder, researcher, composer, and winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship, David Fiuczynski explores the microtonal universe like few others.
His many credits include Stewart Copeland (The Police), Jack DeJohnette, Hiromi, Bernie Worrell and Me’shell NdegeOcello.

The world's zaniest big band presents its "mini me" version, and re-forms the music of Zappa, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter...with comic diversions, because they can't help it!.
"Wonderful, breathtaking, fantastic, exhilarating, great sound, great production, great musicianship...I run out of superlatives..." – paradoxone.uk

"[Ed Palermo]...one of the greatest musicians and arrangers in the world."
– Christian McBride, American jazz bassist, composer, arranger, and six-time Grammy Award winner

"Palermo developed these charts during years of live shows with these musicians, and their mastery of the material shows in the performances, which turn on a dime yet feel fierce with spontaneous invention.... Palermo’s arrangements and these performances are precise, dedicated, raucous and incisive—just like Zappa himself." – JazzTimes

palermobigband.com

This eighteen-piece ensemble - five woodwind players, four trumpeters, three trombonists, two keyboardists, guitar, violin, bass, drums, and vocalists throughout - has been performing jazz arrangements of Zappa’s music regularly since 1994. But what started out as faithfully antic versions of the composer’s complex, fiendishly clever music has expanded to reflect Palermo’s passion for Todd Rundgren, British psychedelia and progressive rock.
This often entails head-spinning in-jokes, such as performing Traffic’s 1971 tune “The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys” over Zappa’s bass line for his composition “Chunga’s Revenge.”

The Ed Palermo Big Band performs monthly at the Iridium in Manhattan and regularly at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY, where Palermo often scripts elaborate thematic evenings. At one such event, vocalist Napoleon Murphy Brock—a longtime Zappa vocalist who frequently works with Palermo—sang the line “I’m never getting married” (from Jimmy Webb’s “The Worst That Could Happen”) as Palermo stumbled onstage in prison stripes for an evening dedicated to his 34th wedding anniversary.

Most of Palermo’s humor, however, lies in the music’s richly textured citations and juxtapositions. The scores themselves are funny.

“I wouldn’t call my thing a comedy show,” he said, “but it’s got a lot of humor in it. I often think that jazz takes itself way too seriously. Maybe that makes my thing stand out a little more.”

Amram, the Renaissance man of American Music who still refers to himself as a "promising young composer".

Now in his 90th year, award-winning composer-conductor-multi-instrumentalist and author DAVID AMRAM is receiving awards and honors worldwide, composing two new commissioned symphonic works, performing at major folk, jazz, classical, spoken word and film festivals, working on his fourth book "David Amram: Notes from a Promising Young Composer" and is the subject of a second documentary feature film by filmmaker Lawrence Kraman, entitled Amram@90:Still a Promising Young Composer He is also composing new symphonic and chamber music works.

Over the last 65 years, Amram has traveled the world, guest conducting his symphonic and operatic works in Europe and Canada - performing with people in every genre imaginable - from Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and his band, to festivals and concerts across the US, Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

"Having visited the Falcon and loving the feeling of community that fills the air, I am honored and happy to perform there with my band. The Falcon reminds me of my favorite places in the 50s when I played in Greenwich Village with the bands of Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Pettiford; when Jack Kerouac and I gave the first-ever jazz-poetry readings in NYC; when I played with Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Odetta and Pete Seeger in the 60s, and was composing for the Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Arthur Miller’s "After the Fall" and Joe Papp’s NY Shakespeare Festival, as well as creating film scores for "Splendor in the Grass" and "The Manchurian Candidate". I played with the great singer-songwriters of the time, with Middle Eastern and Native American musicians, and in the 70s, for many of the great Latin-jazz events." - David Amram
