On this weekend in October, the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie will be the venue for a swinging "Showtunes!, Big Band Style" show presented by The Big Band Sound 25-piece jazz orchestra, including six vocalists and swing dance performers, and it will benefit the Sparrow's Nest local charity in a show spotlighting smash hits from Broadway and Hollywood. This original "Showtunes!, Big Band Style" show will highlight the best of the tunes in the Great American Songbook that originated on the Broadway stage and Hollywood screen, all in the most exciting setting of a live big band. In this show, songs will be performed from all of the greatest American composers and lyricists and from the most famous Broadway shows and Hollywood movies. Performances are Friday, October 16th at 8 p.m., Saturday, October 17th at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 18th at 2 p.m. Admission is $20 with proceeds benefiting the Sparrow's Nest charity.Buy tickets | ||

| Lynn Langham is a Grammy winning songwriter and musician. With a sensuous voice and a subtle musical sense all her own, she creates powerful, moving music that speaks to the heart. She is included in Rice University’s Houston Folk Music Archives. Her songs have been recorded by Wynonna, Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Elizabeth Cook, and more. Her song, “Old Yellow Moon” (written with Hank DeVito) was the title cut of Harris and Crowell’s Grammy winning duet album in 2014. It was also Album of the Year at the 2013 Americana Music Awards. Her studio album credits include Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell. Lynn has written soundtracks for two independent films and volunteers, through Operation Song, to write with soldiers dealing with PTSD. She tours with Doug Gill as Langham and Gill. | ||

He’s back!
JB Smoove is a multi-talented writer, comedian, and actor. He can currently be seen in the beloved role of “Leon” in the iconic HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. JB’s new book The Book of Leon: Philosophy of a Fool, based on the popular character, was released in October and was nominated for a 2018 Audie Award for the audio version. Smoove is also known for a wealth of notable TV performances including BET’s The Real Husbands of Hollywood, ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, CBS’ The Millers and Everybody Hates Chris, and multiple appearances on the latenight talk show circuit. He hosted three seasons of the hit show Four Courses with JB Smoove on the MSG Network as well as one season of the long-running NBC comedy competition series Last Comic Standing, and his one-hour stand-up special That’s How I Dooz It is currently in rotation on Comedy Central.
