Shelley Posen
Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
Shelley Posen is an Ottawa, Canada-based songwriter and long-time performer of his own and traditional songs. He writes in too many styles and on too many subjects (canoes to codfish, seders to Sacred Harp) for them to be “genre-fied.” But they are recognized not only for their variety, but for their wit, craftsmanship, and their profound effect on listeners. They’ve been recorded by artists in Canada, the United States, and Great Britain, and sung around campfires and in living rooms by people who love a good song. Shelley is a member of the much-admired vocal trio, Finest Kind, who performed for years at folk venues on both sides of the Atlantic, and reunite nowadays for Christmas concerts in Ottawa. Other than there, the only place to hear Shelley’s songs sung by him is on his CDs (5 solo, 7 with Finest Kind), and radio programs like Hootenanny Café. He is still writing great songs and recording them, but he has retired from solo performance.

Paramount Hudson Valley Arts presents a reading of FIRE IN A DARK HOUSE. Direct from its stunning premiere on the West Coast , the drama explores the story of two star-crossed young lovers, their families and community, all thrown into turmoil as anti-immigrant fervor sweeps the nation during World War I. FIRE IN A DARK HOUSE is a poignant wartime romance about a passionate young woman who falls for the son of a powerful newspaper publisher who is waging a dangerous propaganda campaign against immigrant families, including her own. Drawing inspiration from historical events, the play explores themes that resonate strongly today and asks us to consider what it means to be an American, an immigrant, a young Dreamer, and a patriot. The play, created by Mona Z. Smith and Traci Mariano will be part of the Paramount Hudson Valley play reading series and is made possible through a generous Arts Alive grant. We hope to see you there!

Having composed over 500 songs in his lifetime, Marc has put together a show in which he pretty much sings his life’s story. This multi-media show reveals the heart and mind of a five year old who felt the lightening bolt that was Elvis, a high schooler suspended for his irreverent songs, a top forty band leader, psychedelicized folkster, family man, corporate tunesmith and environmental activist. From love to love to love, its all there… singable, touching and ultimately… joyful. Marc has been inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame and has recorded and performed with so many legendary acts including Art Garfunkel, Pete Seeger and Van Morrison.
