"Having visited the Falcon and loving the feeling of community that fills the air, I am honored and happy to perform there with my band. The Falcon reminds me of my favorite places in the 50s when I played in Greenwich Village with the bands of Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Pettiford; when Jack Kerouac and I gave the first-ever jazz-poetry readings in NYC; when I played with Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Odetta and Pete Seeger in the 60s, and was composing for the Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Arthur Miller’s "After the Fall" and Joe Papp’s NY Shakespeare Festival, as well as creating film scores for "Splendor in the Grass" and "The Manchurian Candidate". I played with the great singer-songwriters of the time, with Middle Eastern and Native American musicians, and in the 70s, with the great Latin-jazz events." - David Amram

David and Libby of The Mustard's Retreat:

Mustard's Retreat has been delighting audiences by telling stories for 40 years - they are witty, insightful, fun, and profound, as well as accomplished songwriters and musician (guitars, dulcimer, electric bass, mandolin, harmonica, pennywhistle).

In addition to being raconteurs and storytellers, they will give you things to laugh about for days to come and remember for years. Tales of stupid frogs, wandering cadavers, haunted bridges and techo-nerds, memories of small towns and high school, first loves and last... and places we've been or maybe just dreamed of.

Unfortunately, Michael Hough is currently dealing with a family medical issue this spring and will be unavailable for this performance. David and Libby are very excited about singing as a duo. “We have not done this since early 1975,” David says. “We are totally enjoying the singing and putting shows together: some old songs, some new ones … it is all a joy.

Spencertown Academy Roots & Shoots Concerts Series presents Mark Gamsjager and The Lustre Kings on Saturday, April 13 at 8:00pm. A swing dance lesson by Jason Fenton will be offered at 7:00pm prior to the concert.

For more than 20 years, Capital District-based Mark Gamsjager and The Lustre Kings have kept the sound of early rockabilly alive—in the region, across the U.S., and around the world. The group draws from a deeper well than most roots rock acts, giving their music a breadth and depth while still keeping the bar hopping and the dance floor filled. They bring an immediacy to the joyful music with a dark underbelly that has compelled performers like Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly, as well as Bill Kirchen, Eddie Angel, and Robert Gordon to draft them into the service of rock ‘n’ roll revivalism.
