https://jasonkaohwang.com/ The music of Jason Kao Hwang explores the vibrations and language of his history. His compositions are often narrative landscapes through which sonic beings embark upon extemporaneous, transformational journeys. Hwang has said the way he mediates among his various musical worlds is a mix of conscious and unconscious processes: Some of the music is plotted out and some just floats to the top because of who he is. That natural flow is one of his strengths. The mixing doesn't feel contrived. He released Blood, performed by Burning Bridge, his octet of Chinese and Western instruments, in 2018. Downbeat Magazine named his quintet recording Sing House, one of the Best CDs of 2017. As violinist, he has worked with Karl Berger, Anthony Braxton, William Parker, Butch Morris, Ivo Perlman, Oliver Lake, Reggie Workman, Pauline Oliveros, Tomeka Reid, Patrick Brennan, and many others.
