DEFINE FUNK!
A music genre that originated in the mid-1960s, with James Brown's development of a signature groove that emphasized the downbeat—with heavy emphasis on the first beat of every measure - "THE ONE". Funk brings the strong rhythmic groove of a bass line and the drummer to the foreground - based on an extended vamp on a single chord, distinguishing it from R&B and soul. Funk uses the same richly-colored extended chords found in bebop jazz, such as minor chords with added sevenths and elevenths, or dominant seventh chords with altered ninths. With Special Guest Corey Glover of Living Color Featuring Funk Masters: Rich Fracassi on Bass and Vocals of the Funk Junkies Neil Alexander on Keys and Synth of Mr Gone Gennaro Esposito on Guitar of the Funk junkies Pete Furlan on Tenor Sax of Mr Gone Derrick James on Alto Sax of the Funk Junkies Rick Savage on Trumpet Cleveland Best on Drums

Chris O'Leary was inducted in the 2014 NY Int'l Blues Hall of Fame and was lead singer for Levon Helm for over 7 years. Chris has performed with Jimmy Vivino and others. In 2015, the band released their latest CD, "Gonna Die Tryin'", to critical acclaim. "Clearly one of the best releases of 2015." "Tight" doesn't describe the COB. "Bands that rehearse and work hard and can stop and start on a dime are tight. Bands that know each other like the back of their hands are something special." - Review by Eric Gleason. This incredible band features Chris O'Leary on lead vocals/harmonica, Andy Stahl and Chris DiFrancesco on sax, Greg Gumple (Victor Wainwright) on guitar, Matt "Boom Boom" Raymond (Osher, Hubert Sumlin) on bass and Ray Hangan (Sean Costello) on drums. **$10 Entertainment Fee or $5 with Dinner entree** At The Blues Blast Awards in Chicago

Red Tail Ring is the Americana roots duo of Michael Beauchamp and Laurel Premo. The collaboration blends the loving attention of revivalist fervor with the playful creativity of starting from scratch. Whether rendering a traditional tune or one of their many original compositions, the duo infuses each song with musical imagination, haunting harmonies and instrumental artistry on fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin. "We love pushing the boundaries of what a traditional song can be," says Beauchamp. "It informs how we write our original songs. There's a real energy exchange between the old and the new." Formed in 2009, the Michigan-based duo released their fourth full-length studio album, Fall Away Blues, in late 2016. The album features original and traditional songs in an old-time and country blues style that explore topical subjects, such as a devastating community-wide gun tragedy and environmental struggles in the US, as well as changing relationships and a shifting sense of home.
