"LOVE BROUGHT ME BACK" BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!!
with Alexis P. Suter's Birthday Lovefest!, Vicki Bell, Dave Keyes, Chris Bergson, Willie Smith, Jason Upchurch, Ray Grappone
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Alexis P. Suter is the 2017 BMA Nominee for Best Female Contemporary Blues Vocalist!

"She is one of those wonderful spirits; she's got her arms around you. You can feel that." - Levon Helm (1940-2012)

"It's a rare thing to share the stage with great talent like that young lady." - B.B. King (1925-2015) The root of the Alexis P. Suter Band and The Minister's Of Sound is Suter's deep, powerful, commanding, and soulful voice, artfully blending the lines between gospel and blues. Suter is the daughter of a singer, Carrie Suter, backing vocalist with Harry Belafonte, Mahalia Jackson and Rosetta Tharpe and cites the late classic R&B singer, Ruth Brown, as a primary influence, as well as Barry White, DJ Rogers, and her sister Andrea P. Suter.

Alexis P. Suter is a powerhouse bass/baritone vocalist with the ability to go to "that other place" where singers go when they are lost in the music. It is no wonder the late B.B. King and the late Levon Helm were big fans.

The Hudson Valley Blues Scene has been home to such renowned blues talent as Bill Perry, Popa Chubby, Murali Coryell and Little Sammy Davis among others. But it was under the tutelage of these master bluesmen, that Dan Brother began his guitar playing and singing career. Having shared the stage with mentors like his, it’s no wonder Dan picked up a little of everything – from protest era psychedelia to straight-up blues; classic era soul to Southern rock and Texas twang.

Dan’s high energy performances are draw fans new and old, who expect a mix of blues, soul, rock & roll. The band accommodates, with sets that go from slow and low-down monstrous blues to booty-grooving ecstatic funk.

Fiery guitar work is Dan’s forte. He is also a gifted songwriter, whose road tested songs – have proven to be built on danceable grooves, with memorable hooks.

Dan’s band, eponymously named, currently features Chris Reddan on drums and Jason Upchurch on electric bass guitar.

Opening Act
with Bennett Harris
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
At the core of Bennett Harris's music is an intricate fingerpicking guitar style, based on the Rev. Gary Davis method (as taught to Bennett by a Davis protege, the late Ian Buchanan.) This string weaving generates a carnival-like, upbeat sound of the ragtime era, providing a warm texture behind Bennett's emotional singing and harmonica playing.

An old Gibson flat top guitar is Bennett's choice of tradition. He switches guitars entirely for the gritty Delta "bottleneck" slide style, employing his pre-WWll gem of a National steel guitar. This metal-bodied resonator guitar has a memorable, commanding gut-bucket growl and whine, perfect for the rugged Delta blues sound of the Deep South plantation culture. It is a unique, all-American sound.

Magic Dick, harmonica master for Boston’s legendary J. Geils Band has partnered with guitar and vocal sensation, Shun, to create one of the most dynamic musical acts to come out of Boston in a long time. Their music is soulful blues, rockin’ yet thoughtful and performed by two top musicians.

Since 1969, Magic Dick has toured the world playing clubs and stadiums with the J. Geils Band. “From the moment I first heard Shun's CD “Funky Thumb Stuff” I knew that a manifest musical collaboration was about to happen. Shun’s sound simply made me feel very alive and induced in me a synchronous alignment of musical DNA as if it was his intention as well as mine all along!

“In this collaboration with Magic Dick,” Shun says, “we wanted to make music in a way that no one had quite done before while remaining grounded in our roots. Magic Dick brings a powerhouse attack with ferocious precision and a killer groove to this duo."

A long time multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter on both coasts, Hudson Valley resident John Holt follows one strict rule with his craft. “I like to try and blaze my own trail with it all, let the songs be what they will and not go for any specific sound.”

The band — with Holt on vocals, acoustic guitar and mandolin, Chris Morgan on drums and Julian Bender on electric bass — uses sonic space and dynamic tonal interplay to create moody soundscapes for Holt’s spellbinding vocal delivery and charismatic stage presence.

Joan & Joni is a tribute to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell performed by Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin. Allison Shapira is a “recovering opera singer” who found her authentic voice as a folksinger. Kipyn Martin is an award-winning Americana artist whose roots sink deep into the banks of the Shenandoah River. Allison and Kipyn met at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance in November 2013. Both classically trained singers and up-and-coming musicians on the Washington DC area folk scene, they realized their musical influences were similarly shaped by folk revival music of the 60’s. Allison Shapira studied classical voice at Boston University, Tanglewood, and in Italy. Her debut CD, Coming Home was released at Club Passim (then Club 47) where Joan Baez got her start in 1958. Mid-Atlantic Song Contest Gold Award winner Kipyn Martin is a West Virginia native who now resides in Columbia MD. Kipyn’s new EP, Dance Across the Sky follows her debut Undercover Muse released in 2013.
