Open Mic
Towne Crier Cafe
379 Main Street
Beacon, NY   See Map
Now FREE! For over 25 years the Towne Crier's legendary Open Mic Nights have drawn top talent from throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond, including Sloan Wainwright, the Slambovian Circus Of Dreams and Red Molly. Known as a true "listening room," it provides artists with a respectful performance space, and live music fans with the best entertainment value around. Don Lowe hosts.

For a variety of reasons, after trial and error, email signups have not worked out, so we have discontinued it. Signups are exclusively in person (no phone signups either) between 5pm and 7pm day of the open mic. Show up early in order to pick a slot (with the host's consent and at his/her sole discretion!)

DILANA, Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, the girl known by age two as Dilana Smith discovered a love for music at an early age, participating in school and church choirs as an escape from an unpleasant home life. Dilana soon found herself with a promising music career in Holland, becoming one of the country's most coveted live acts. Recording and releasing the album Wonderfool in 2000 yielded five singles, four videos and a string of touring and festival gigs throughout the region, celebrating her natural talents as a songwriter and performer. By way of Houston, Dilana arrived in L.A. and auditioned to compete on TV's "Rock Star SupernovaDilana has performed with rock's biggest legends including Tommy Lee and Mick Mars (Mötley Crue), Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Gilby Clark (Guns N' Roses). Richie Stearns and Jim Miller are founding members of the roots rock band DONNA THE BUFFALO whose members perform with Preston Frank.

Red Dog Run is a group of veteran musicians and old friends who have spent most of their lives exploring the depths of American roots music. Each member brings a rich musical history of their own and a deep appreciation for the traditions from which they've grown. They have performed extensively, together and separately, in projects exploring folk, rock, old time, new wave, country, Celtic, Cajun/Creole, and their own compositions, at clubs, theaters, and festival across the Americas and Europe. In collaboration, they hope to harness that collective inspiration, finding new ways to express the angst and energy of modern life through music.

There is a rock n roll influence in Frank’s brand of zydeco, certainly. The genre which stemmed from Louisiana La-La music, came into its own over the last 60 years. Rock influence shows itself in zydeco, as much as blues and traditional Creole. Yet, Frank manages to keep tradition close.

Born in Oberlin, Louisiana, in 1947, Preston Frank is a bastion of a time when zydeco music was propelled by the rhythmic interplay of the accordion and fiddle, long before the modern influences of hip-hop and funk left their imprint on the genre. He plays the old songs with an irrepressible energy and his original compositions- including Why You Wanna Make Me Cry and Hey Trudy- have become staples of the modern zydeco repertoire. Preston is also the heartbeat of the Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance in Trumansburg, NY, having performed every year since its founding 26 years ago.

A Tribute to The Band!
with The THE BAND Band
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Not your ordinary tribute band - The THE BAND Band brings the music of The Band alive with authentic, true-to-form renditions of their extraordinary repertoire, delivered with the passion and commitment for which The Band was renowned.

The THE BAND Band has shared the stage with notable artists Richie Havens, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, and Marshall Crenshaw.

Drawing their repertoire from The Band's seminal period – from Big Pink to The Last Waltz - they showcase the astounding breadth and depth of The Band’s distinctively original Americana music, mixing well-known hits with obscure gems. They have performed “album shows” (The Band, Stage Fright), recreations of historic concerts (The Last Waltz, Woodstock, Watkins Glen Music Festival), and a special tribute to Bob Dylan.

“We don’t play our versions of The Band’s songs, we play their versions... to preserve the authenticity of their sound, their arrangements, and most importantly, the spirit of their live shows."

Jacqui Naylor Quartet
Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
"Naylor remains one of the most superbly arresting vocalists around." - JazzTimes

"Naylor excels as a sensitive song interpreter with unerring intonation." - DownBeat

"Jacqui has a sumptuous voice, knack for scratchiness, and an ability to sweeten those bluesy bent notes." - Village Voice

This velvet-toned vocalist and songwriter is equally at ease singing music by Cole Porter and David Byrne as she is her own original music. Far from a straight-laced jazz purist, Naylor has made the mixing (and sometimes "smashing") of genres and eras her stock-in-trade, gaining fans and notoriety for singing the lyrics and melody of jazz standards over the grooves of well-known pop and rock songs and vice versa. "Naylor has brought new twists to the notion of melding jazz and pop tunes - without high-tech assistance," claims NPR.

with Live Society, performing classic and original Motown and R&B
Motown/R&B. Pop Rock
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
LIVE SOCIETY is a 12 Grapes favorite and we're so glad they're back! This is a rare Westchester appearance, at the perfect time of year.

With harmony-rich vocals that drive crowds wild, this 8 piece band puts on a sound and stage show that's a mix of Pop Rock, Indy song-craft and classic Motown/Soul. It's like Maroon 5 meets The Jackson 5. Live Society performs songs by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding... the list goes on and on. And their original songs are so rich and hooky you won't be able to get them out of your head.

Brothers Kevin and Brian Collazo and their cousin Jason Vargas sing with the unity of family, back by their "blood brothers" John Kaiteris (guitarist songwriter), Anthony Candullo (bass), Scotty Harper (sax), and Erik Perez (drums).

There's a lot to LOVE about Live Society this Valentine's Weekend!

Gin Blossoms soon unfurled a chain of crossover favorites spanning five different formats, from “Hey Jealousy” and “Until I Fall Away” to “Follow You Down” and the GRAMMY-nominated “As Long As It Matters,” earning band sales in excess of 10 million in the US alone.

Greg Cornell and The Cornell Brothers
Acoustic, Bluegrass, and Roots Music
Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts
Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY   See Map
Greg Cornell & The Cornell Brothers is a Brooklyn-based, fourpiece acoustic roots music band that plays original songs heavily influenced by bluegrass, country, old-timey and blues. Cornell's songs are influenced as much by his literary heroes (Whitman, Emerson, Thoreau) as they are by his musical ones (Doc Boggs, Levon Helm, Neil Young, 1970's bluegrass). He writes stories about regret turning to redemption, and holding onto hope through travail. Tight three-part harmonies and excellent musicianship (guitar, fiddle, standup bass, percussion) carry the stories along, over mountains and fields, down streams to the ocean. The band released their debut album, The Deep Ocean Blues (available on iTunes), in 2014, and will go into the studio at Brooklyn Recording in March to cut a new10-song record of original material. Justin Guip (Levon Helm, Bow Thayer, David Bromberg) will engineer and mix.

Even before forming the pioneering, Grammy winning, platinum selling rock band Living Colour, Corey's incredible talent as a personality and as an artist was brought to the attention of director Oliver Stone. The famed movie maker decided to cast Corey in his Vietnam epic, Platoon.

As a founding member of Living Colour, Corey earned numerous industry awards including back-to-back Grammys for Best Hard Rock Performance of 1989 ('Cult of Personality') and 1990 (Time's Up) and emerged as one of the most influential rock acts of all time, regularly selling out arenas and millions of albums.

Corey found the time to form a new band, VICE, which enables him to satisfy his appetite to write in other genres and impact a whole new set of listeners.
