with Piedmont Bluz Acoustic Duo (Valerie & Ben Turner), Patrick Daley
Acoustic, Blues, and Folk/Traditional
Hyde Park Free Library - Annex Bldg
2 Main St
Hyde Park , NY   See Map
I am thrilled to open for Piedmont Bluz! In my set, I will play 6 and 12 string guitar, some instrumental pieces and other country blues. I focus more on the artists who brought about the folk and blues revival in the early 60s. Valerie focuses more on the original artists themselves, such as Mississippi John Hurt, Memphis Minnie, etc.

I met Valerie years ago when she was shy about playing in front of anyone who was not also an aspiring guitarist. But even way back then, when she played the simplest songs, we knew she was something special. She laid down a hypnotic grove and coxed a beautiful tone out of every note. Years later, it is no surprise that she and Ben get invited to festivals all over the country and were recently featured in the Living Blues Magazine. Valerie also attended blues classes in Port Townsend, WA, but THEN GOT INVITED TO BE ON THEIR FACULTY and recently returned from teaching there. Delighted this talented Queens NY duo is visiting the 'Hud. Don't miss!

The Allstar bands emerged out of the Festival which is also produced by Pat Philips & Ettore Stratta.

An orchestration of "elegant themes over the filthy flow of the rhythm", Anthony Gach & HARMONIC AGGRESSION is a nine member groove machine that celebrates a conglomeration of Rock, Blues and Reggae while keeping it consistently Funky.

Fronted by male and female vocals on top of a full horn section and backed by an extra large rhythm section, the band is starting to spread into the ears of listeners outside of the Hudson Valley and Lower East Side clubs like the Bitter End and others. The construction of their compositions are a comfortable blend of catchy hooks and extended solo sections and all of their songs are reasons to groove on the dance floor.

5 piece "bluegrass explosion”. No Depression Magazine wrote of them: “Ace banjo player Jeff Scroggins is well known in bluegrass music circles, having dominated many banjo contests over the years and played with major artists like Peter Rowan, Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, The Dixie Chicks and more, but the discoveries in the band were his young son, Tristan Scroggins, an amazing mandolin player, and W. Virginia singer Greg Blake, whose soaring tenor cut through the dirty brick walls.”

Jeff Scroggins is a 2 time National Bluegrass Banjo Champion. Tristan Scroggins (age 20) holds 2 State Mandolin Championships. Greg Blake, was twice nominated by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America (SPBGMA) for “Traditional Male Vocalist of the Year” and has won 5 SPBGMA awards for “Guitarist of the Year.” The concert will be inside the acoustically exquisite old Phoenicia Railway Station with seating for under 50. Tickets are $18 or $15 w/RSVP to flyingcatmusic@gmail.

Start with deep roots in traditional folk music, add musical versatility, mix in both historical and contemporary themes, all seasoned with a healthy dose of good-natured humor, and sit back and enjoy a performance by Kevin & Carol Becker with Rich Keyes. Performing together regularly for over twenty years, Kevin, Carol, and Rich have developed a unique sound that combines breathtaking vocals, instrumental dexterity, and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other's talents. That sound starts with Kevin's intricate finger picking on guitar, augmented by his impeccable harmonica playing. Carol's soaring vocals, clear, bright, and pure, stand out when solo and form compelling harmonies with Kevin's soothing, comforting voice. It's all anchored by Rich's solid rhythms on upright bass and his driving bluegrass-influenced banjo.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
NYC / Boston's freshest Afrobeat-Jazz group, The Brighton Beat is a positive Afrobeat force, aimed at getting the crowd dancing and bootys shaking. Heavily influenced by Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, but in no way traditional, the group creates grooves reminiscent of Herbie Hancock, at times reaching the raw, unbridled expression found in the music of Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard.

The Brighton Beat stormed onto the scene with their debut, "The Brighton Beat EP" in 2010. Their first full-length album, "The Brighton Beat LP" has been critically acclaimed and featured in independent films. Their follow-up album, "Off We Go", released in January 2015, has been distributed around the world.

This 10-piece horn- and percussion-driven band includes Sammy Wags, Matt Graff, Greg Schettino, Ryan Hinchey, Jon Bean, Mark Zaleski, Freddy Gonzalez, Dan Lipsitz, Mark Cocheo, Patrick "Chazz" Dalton and Ryan "6th Degree" Nava.

Given the Grammy award-winning musicians, with each band member carefully selected not only for their skill but for their passion for the music, one can only marvel at Nuclear Fusion’s eclectic sound.
