Bernard PurdieThe FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Which musician did Aretha Franklin definitely NOT want missing from the line-up when she recorded her most inspired albums at the beginning of the seventies.

Who provided the back-beat for Steely Dan's "Aja", and for whom have Isaac Hayes, Donny Hathaway, B.B. King, "Sweet" Lou Donaldson, Joe Cocker and Hank Crawford reserved that stool behind the drum kit?

The list is incomplete; it must be, because no other drummer in the last three decades has seen the interior of a recording studio as often as Bernard "Pretty" Purdie. The 57 year-old native of Elkton, Maryland has laid down the beat on over 3000 albums to date.

The legendary drummer's style is described as the "funkiest soul beat" in the business. Purdie has never limited his talents, but has consistently sought out new musical experiences, anchoring sessions with the Rolling Stones, James Brown and Tom Jones with equal ease.

"DRIVE" and "GROOVE" are definitely not missing from his vocabulary.

Sasha Papernik is a first generation Russian-American classical pianist, singer, and songwriter who draws on her dual heritage and wide range of talents to present concerts spanning the genre and continental divide.

Lauded for her "lightly transparent performances of Chopin and Scriabin,” The Washington Post (July 2013) calls her “uncommonly attractive and entertaining...managing a comfortable balance of the formal and the casual.”

Her 2013 self-released bilingual album, Victory, has been hailed by reviewers as "an eye opener," (Wildy's World) and "unparalleled in its aesthetics and musical elegance," (Indiemunity).

Sasha is currently a featured artist in this year's 2013-2014 Lincoln Center Meet The Artist school series and Carnegie Hall's Musical Explorers program. Her bilingual program, “I Speak Music,” has also toured New York City schools for The Center For Arts Education.

Steve Cooper is a Warwick metalsmith who ships beautiful sculptures of metal flowers and jewelry to galleries and garden centers across the US. Last month, Steve and his wife Karen woke up with their home engulfed in flames. They made it out of the house with only the pajamas they wore. Karen, with some minor burns and a respiratory problem, ended up in St.Anthony’s Hospital but was released 7 days later. The second day out of the hospital Karen had a heart attack while driving, sustaining serious injuries to her spine and rib cage. She passed away 5 days later, May 25th.

Steve currently has nothing and is too proud to ask for help. That's where friends and community come in. Help gives Hope. Please join us at this fundraiser and make a difference.

There'll be a silent auction and delicious food. But, mostly there will be the opportunity for YOU to make a difference. Please come.

Alyssa Cartwright, a recent graduate with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from SUNY New Paltz, makes elemental paintings and drawings inspired by nature and its timeless cycles.

She incorporates line drawings of animals - the bear in particular - with whom she feels a kindred connection.

She believes all living things have a soul, and her art speaks to the unity of spiritual and physical existence.

Her work is attuned to the rhythmic and melodic qualities of the universe, and addresses the past, the present and the future, always keeping in mind that everything has a beginning and an end.

Welsh singer/songwriter/producer, Donna Lewis's 1996 "I Love You Always Forever" was a global smash – a dance-pop classic for which people around the globe still have boundless affection.

But Lewis, demonstrates her many dimensions with the eagerly awaited new album, "Brand New Day" - a collection of jazz-tinged pop covers featuring the pre-eminent progressive jazz trio of Ethan Iverson, Reid Anderson and Dave King, better known as THE BAD PLUS.

Before you hear the final word on classics such as "Walk On By," "Everybody's Talkin,'" "Helpless" and "Crazy," hear Lewis' intoxicating versions, produced and arranged by her longtime friend and collaborator David Torn. Redefining herself as an artist without losing the wonderful open qualities her fans love, she delivers an unexpectedly powerful remake of the multi-platinum "I Love You Always Forever” with two other winning originals.

Featuring Jesse Stacken/Piano, Chris Tordini/Bass and Jared Schonig/Drums.

MOPCO brings its unique brand of improv to the Adirondack Theatre Festival's Summer season!

Created by Kat Koppett in association with Freestyle Repertory Theatre in New York, Spontaneous Broadway is a virtuoso evening of musical improv.

The audience submits titles of "songs that have never been written". In a fictional "backer's audition", these titles inspire improvised songs in act one. In act two, the audience's favorite song serves as the basis of an entire (45 minute) Broadway musical, complete with costumes and set.

The format received a rave review from The New York Times when it premiered in New York in 1995. You ain’t seen nuttin’ like it, folks!

Burnell Pines is fire, water and air . Heavy, light, fun. Rambunctious, reserved and fierce.

This new music was born in the Catskills, on top of a mountain in the sun, down by the river, in a basement, through hurricanes and floods .

Burnell's live shows are contagious fun and no matter the venue or the audience, reminiscent of an intimate party with friends .

Formed in the UK in 2012 The Black Feathers are making a 23 city East Coast US tour, in part as a result of their exposure on "Songs From The Shed".

"The Shed" - a former army billet based in the UK's Somerset countryside - became the perfect location to break from the madness of touring, kick back and watch intimate lo-fi acoustic performances. This in turn became YouTube's cult phenomenon, "Songs From the Shed", launching a global theater of fine acoustic performances.

The voices and guitar of Sian Chandler and Ray Hughes blend English pastoral sounds,Celtic fringe and the resonance of the American southeast.

Their spirited home-recorded demos burst with promise and launched performances throughout the UK including the prestigious Cambridge Folk Festival and the Upton Blues Festival.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
The 1st Thurs of each month, join saxman and vocalist JP Patrick & his band as they play for each other, and for you. The band explores the musical territory of Blues, R&B, Funk and Jazz. Every installment of "Sessions" is unique, as JP often invites different musicians to sit in and perform.

JP plays Blues harp and alto sax (and sometimes a little stand-up comedy!), and always performs with passion and energy. His audiences feel it... and love it. The band includes Dave McDowell on sax, Paulie Biz on bass, Linda Geiger on drums and special guests.

Every month, there's a new dynamic on the stage. It may be a sit-down electric-acoustic night, or dueling drummers, or exceptional harmonies with 3 back-up singers. You never know what MAGIC may happen at one of JP's Sessions, but you will never be disappointed in the calibre of the music.

Help us pack the place tonight. Live music is truly a gift. And tonight, it's FREE.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
“Tisziji’s music is of a unique, other-worldly nature… although I didn’t understand it, I was galvanized. He began to instruct me in how to accompany and play this type of music. Thus began a musical and spiritual friendship which continues to this day. I apprenticed with Muñoz until I left for New York in 1974. He taught me first a repertoire of jazz standards, expanding my knowledge of harmony, then gradually freed me to play the modal type of spatial music with which he dealt.......”--World-famous keyboard player, Paul Shaffer.

Marilyn Crispell has been a composer and performer of contemporary improvised music since 1978. For ten years, she was a member of the Anthony Braxton Quartet and the Reggie Workman Ensemble, and she has performed and recorded extensively as a soloist and with players on the American and international jazz scene, also working with dancers, poets, film-makers and visual artists, and teaching workshops in improvisation.
