BEST OF HUDSON VALLEY- 2013 READER'S PICK- BEST BRUNCH!
with Akie Bermiss Trio, Dan Asher, Andrew Gillespie
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Gifted pianist, composer, and singer, Akie Bermiss, has been a Man of Letters since he was still in "small clothes".

Bermiss began writing music criticism in his years at Bard College, finishing with a degree in music composition. He also studied American Music (read: tin pan alley, broadway musicals, and jazz) and writing (read: wrote some bad poetry and called it good).

To his friends, he is considered a musical snob of the highest order; to his enemies — a musical charlatan of the basest variety.

Among other things he is the author of a children’s book (“I Hate to Be Sick” - Scholastic), a lover of science fiction, a huge fan of cigars, and he takes his bourbon: neat.

Sounds of the '60s & Woodstock generation including Peter, Paul & Mary as well as Crosby, Stills & Nash. The semester culminates in several rehearsals and performances on the road, with the guest artist leading and featured.

Alto saxophonist Harrison, a 1981 Berklee alumnus, is a New Orleans-born traditionalist, a modern jazz trendsetter, a former Jazz Messenger, a nurturer of young talent, a composer, and a bandleader.

A kind of Crescent City Renaissance man, Harrison has performed with a musical who’s who that includes Art Blakey, Dr. John, Digable Planets, Lena Horne, and Miles Davis, to name just a few.

An artist in residence at Tulane University, Harrison’s most recent recording is "This Is Jazz: Live at the Blue Note," with Billy Cobham and Ron Carter, and New Orleans Gumbo with Dr. John.

Soñando
Latin. Plena, Son, Salsa, Merengue & More!
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The hot, wild and joyful sounds of Soñando have earned them the reputation as the Hudson Valley's premier Latin band. Their spicy blend of music and musicians have performed in clubs, at private funtions, community festivals, benefit concerts, on radio and television, as well as the Puerto Rico Day Parade in NYC, but the band is at home wherever a dance floor can be cleared. Fueled by a fiery rhythm section and high-octane horns, Soñando plays a wide variety of Latin styles from Plena and Son to Salsa and Merengue!

"The name of the band is Spanish for "dreaming" but when the hordes come out for Soñando, they don't sleepwalk - they dance. And we're not talking a few perfunctory head-bobs or butt-wiggles, they dance until they go up in flames, like Tula's unquenchable bedroom in the Cuban lyrics..." - Woodstock Times

With an easy going rapport and an obvious joy from performing, Ron Renninger leaps across a wide range of musical genres lightly touching down in some rather surprising places. “...well crafted, well sung and superbly played original compositions.” NY Times.

“One of the Hudson Valley's most popular performers, Helen Avakian is also among the most multifaceted, at home in a range of genres from singer-songwriter to Flamenco and classical guitar.”

A rock band that plays "choice cuts and cool originals". Songs you love, but don't hear too often. Like the Beatles' Taxman and She Said She Said plus the best of The Who, Clapton, the Stones, Pink Floyd and the Police... Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Incubus... and on and on.

The band features Tito Wilson on drums/vocals with Artie Walker, Johnny Marshall and Mike Milazzo. Tito and Artie are two members of our Live Band Karaoke Band, and if you've seen them, you know what amazing musicians these guys are!

Electric Beef was also the band that performed the night 12 Grapes was on Restaurant Stakeout, so they're kinda famous.
