“Carmen Souza sings in her native creole dialect with an intimacy, sensuality, and vivacity, characterised by a tremendous lightness of touch. Her music has a deceptive simplicity, a rare clarity, derived from a unique mix of influences from her Cape Verdean background to jazz and modern soul creating this beautifully vibrant, largely acoustic, accessible hybrid. World soul music for the 21st century.” David Sylvian

In 2003, Carmen began working with renowned Portuguese bassist Theo Pas'cal on the compositions that would be included on her début album Ess ê nha Cabo Verde. This album set the tone for her next three major releases, all of which have garnered critical acclaim the world over, including Best Female Singer at the 2013 Cabo Verde Music Awards as well as being named one of NPR's best jazz vocalists of 2013.

Undoubtedly, she is a true world music force and one of Europe's most in-demand jazz singers.

The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Sculptor Sydney Cash mounts a three month ”work-in-progress” exhibition at The Falcon in Marlboro NY, beginning February 2014.

The show will feature Cash’s new dimensional paintings and portraits in space-modulating installations. Some pieces will span the entire width of the club. Some will include the tables, integrating elements of his light sculpture to the surprise and delight of the Falcon audience!

What does this Work-in-Progress mean? It means the show is alive. It will change frequently as Cash respond to the space, the music and the experience on a weekly basis.

Sydney Cash's studios are nearby in Marlboro. With a key to the club, his work-in-progress may happen at any time, day or night. This is a very special opportunity for the artist, whose experimental ideas will be manipulated in continuing improvisation, complimenting the music being performed, and engaging an audience that wants to be thrilled with “all that jazz”.

1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Jay and Molly are musicians who draw their repertoire & inspiration from a wide range of American musical styles: 19th-century classics, lively Appalachian, Cajun, & Celtic fiddle tunes & favorites from the golden age of country & swing, fiddle tunes, & orchestral compositions.

Millions were entranced by the music they did for Ken Burns' PBS documentary The Civil War. Their performance of the series' signature tune, Jay's haunting composition Ashokan Farewell, earned the couple international acclaim. The soundtrack won a Grammy & Ashokan Farewell was nominated for an Emmy.

Ruth Ungar & Mike Merenda have emerged as one of acoustic America’s most revered musical duos. As story-tellers, as singers, as poets & as parents (they tour with their two small children), Mike + Ruthy are heralds of an American cultural awakening that values honesty & togetherness, prefer grit to glitz, and revels in the old-fashioned telling of a story.

GILLES MALKINE performed as a member of Tim Hardin’s band at the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, and at Carnegie Hall the same year; his career has gone pretty much downhill since that time, as evidenced by his present association. As an actor-guitarist, he co-starred off-Broadway in The Dixie Dewdrop, a fabulous musical two-person extravaganza that lasted most of a month. He's also starred as a Latin guitarist and as such was founder of Capricorn Moon, a sprightly but short-winded samba quartet that soon suffered a permanent lunar eclipse. He recorded with Hardin and others, and has logged many gigs as artist, writer, disability advocate, actor, illustrator, cartoonist, and composer.

With MIKHAIL HOROWITZ, they perform hip-hop versions of Waiting for Godot, Moby-Dick, Homer's Odyssey, and other literary classics; blues versions of works by Shakespeare, et al...They are biologically incorrect, fiscally challenged, and barely fundable.

In church it's called "shouting"-the gospel dance. "They get up and shout & shout." In a club when Rene Bailey sings and "it" hits, you yell, "Yes, indeed!
