Marlboro, NY   See Map
Sculptor Sydney Cash mounts a three month ”work-in-progress” exhibition at The Falcon in Marlboro NY, beginning February 2014.

The show will feature Cash’s new dimensional paintings and portraits in space-modulating installations. Some pieces will span the entire width of the club. Some will include the tables, integrating elements of his light sculpture to the surprise and delight of the Falcon audience!

LBK is way more fun than singing to a pre-recorded track! 12 Grapes' Live Band Karaoke is like traditional karaoke -- people choose a song from a list and sing when it's their turn-- but instead of a pre-recorded background track, the participants sing with a LIVE backing band, and even back-up singers.

The band will have a varied song list from the '70s, '80s, '90s, contemporary rock and more so check the list when you get here.

If you're a musician, sign up as usual for Rock Jam.

Hosted by JP Patrick, with Tito Wilson on drums, Chris Burke on keys, Artie Walker on bass and Petey Hop on guitar!

Sign-up between 8 & 10PM. PA, mics, drums, keys and amps provided.

SWING DANCE with LESSONS+!
with Saints of Swing & Dance Lessons by the Freemans
Swing/Jump, Big Band, Blues, and Motown/R&B
Kleinart/James Center for the Arts
36 Tinker Street
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Back by popular demand, on Friday, February 21, the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts presents Byrdcliffe's 3rd kick-up-your-heels swing dance party, featuring live music by the beloved Saints of Swing. The Saints of Swing will play favorites from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and more, taking our guests on a trip through time. Dancers will be equally transported by the soulful tones of legendary vocalist Miss Rene Bailey. The evening starts with a 30 miniute dance lesson by Chester & Linda from Got2Lindy. They'll teach "social dance" skills -- everyone dances with others in rotation, permitting those wanting to participate to come to events without a partner, very common in the dance community. Whether you come alone or with friends, you'll always have a partner. When the music dies down, you'll leave with songs in your head, a lighter step, and the knowledge that you are part of keeping Byrdcliffe, America's longest continually operating arts colony, going strong.

A band whose music is every bit as intriguing as its name.

12 Grapes is pleased to present "Sex and Breakfast". Keyboardist Mike Ventimiglia and vocalist Stephanie Harrison have joined forces to create a band that blends hypnotic electronic dance grooves with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and more. The arrangements are quite interesting ... recognizable yet completely fresh and new.

Stephanie has a vocal range that is amazing. She can channel Janis Joplin, then perform Ella Fitzgerald's Summertime with deep emotion and soul. Stephanie's beautiful voice is backed by the inimitable talents of Mike V. on keyboards and vocals.

Join us tonight for "Sex & Breakfast". You know you want it!

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Gifted pianist, composer, and singer, Akie Bermiss, has been a Man of Letters since he was still in "small clothes". Bermiss began writing music criticism in his years at Bard College, finishing with a degree in music composition. He also studied American Music (read: tin pan alley, broadway musicals, and jazz) and writing (read: wrote some bad poetry and called it good).

To his friends, he is considered a musical snob of the highest order; to his enemies — a musical charlatan of the basest variety. Among other things he is the author of a children’s book (“I Hate to Be Sick” - Scholastic), a lover of science fiction, a huge fan of cigars, and he takes his bourbon: neat.

The musical interaction touches upon issues of cultural transformation, identity, and the retention and continuity of values and practices from culture to culture. It is this resulting hybridization of rhythmic style and instruments that enriches our American musical traditions. The purpose of the program is to educate and inspire the general public, students, and musicians on both history and music. It is presented during the month of February as a contribution to programs honoring the nation's celebration of "Black History Month."

This project is made possible, in part, with funds from Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange.

Although Popa Chubby grew up in the 1970s, he took his cue from artists of the '60s, including Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, among others.

Chubby's first big break was winning a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON, a public radio station in Long Beach, California. He won New Artist of the Year, and opened the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992. Chubby played more than 200 club dates a year through the '90s.

His Sony/Okeh debut, Booty and the Beast, was produced by legendary Atlantic Records engineer/producer Tom Dowd, whose recordings by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, and others are timeless.

Troubled by the war in Iraq, Chubby released his most political album, Peace, Love and Respect, followed by Big Man Big Guitar; Stealing the Devil's Guitar; Electric Chubbyland; Vicious Country; Universal Breakdown Blues followed in 2013 and featured Chubby's cover version of "Over the Rainbow" as its centerpiece.
