with The Compact, Erin Hobson, Steven W. Ross
Singer-Songwriter. Guitarists
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The song-writing team of Erin Hobson and Steven Ross churn out songs that surprise. This one-of-a-kind ensemble weaves tapestries of musical fare with unexpected depth and sensitivity. The duet’s live show is uplifting and textured - combining musical styles into a sound that’s totally new.

Erin Hobson (guitar/vocals) has performed nationally, and is known for her poetic lyrics, masterful guitar technique and unique vocal quality. Her guitar virtuosity and explosive phrasing is anything but soft. The combination often startles.

Steven W. Ross (bass/production) Multi-instrumentalist; Ross has scored and played for radio, TV and film, including two original songs in the 2010 Sundance award-winning mock rockumentary “Colin Fitz Lives!” Steven’s arrangements and “never sag, never brag” bass lines are inventive, unique melodic grooves that define The Compact’s sound.

World renowned, rock guitarist, Gary Hoey takes on the Blues with his new album, “Deja Blues,” available now on Wazoo Music Group. “This is an album of original blues songs I’ve wanted to record for a long time. The Blues has always been near and dear to my heart. I have so much respect for it. When I’m recording a blues song, it’s a 5 minute journey and you can’t take a breath, you can’t keep punching in the recording button to fix stuff or it loses the vibe.” At sixteen, Hoey often lingered outside Boston’s renowned Berklee College of Music making friends and offering to pay for lessons. To devote more of his time to music, the prodigy would cut high school classes so that he could hone his guitar playing skills all the while playing Boston’s local clubs and teaching guitar to avoid a day job and keep the guitar in his hands.cover of the Focus hit, “Hocus Pocus”. Not only did the hit rocket into the Billboard Top 5. OPENER EASTWICK RIVER BAND - 4:30PM GARY HOEY - SHOWTIME 6:15

Mike Laureanno is the real deal Americana .. poignant themes, memorable refrains, warm vocals and unforgettable arrangements. Mike's songs have been accused of passing the whistle test with direct honesty. His background in traditional folk music makes for melodies that sound like they were written long ago, while his lyrics make ample use of metaphor and avoid cliché. In addition to being a songwriter Mike is a recording engineer, producer and sideman. Mike produced and recorded folksinger Michael Troy's debut CD "Whispers in the Wind" and Mike played bass guitar and sang high harmony for 12 years behind legendary NYC Fast Folk founder, Jack Hardy.

Blues. Improvisational
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
In bridging the worlds of Delta blues icon Skip James and improvised art music, drummer Ted Poor turns to two masters of melody and texture: the keyboardist Pete Rende and, in a rare East Coast appearance, the trumpeter Cuong Vu. Renowned innovators in their own right, Poor, Rende and Vu convene to tackle a combination of new compositions and arrangements of Mississippi delta blues.

Having collaborated in other settings for over a decade, the trio brings a deeply personal and highly developed sense of song, form and sound to their explorations of this rich American art form. Ethereal texture, pure melody and gritty pulse converge to form a world steeped in the blues and wide open to possibility.

As internationally acclaimed artists Ted Poor, Pete Rende and Cuong Vu have performed and recorded with many of the most important voices in music today, including: Pat Metheny, David Bowie, Bill Frisell, Laurie Andersen, Ben Monder, Rebecca Martin and Kurt Rosenwinkel.

New West has been making its mark as a fresh, cutting-edge guitar ensemble. Performing popular covers and original music, New West combines acoustic and electric guitars to create their signature sound. Based in Los Angeles and New York, NW tours extensively throughout the US giving concerts and master classes.

Praised as “sharp and refined” by the Seattle Times, New West Guitar Group infuses its latest disc "Big City" with its signature blend of laid-back virtuosity and expert arrangements that “sometimes verge on the orchestral” (All Music Guide).

Firmly rooted in classic jazz, the trio’s versatility as both players and composers has given them a reputation as pioneers in the realm of guitar ensemble repertoire. Acoustic Guitar Magazine has praised the group for its ability to shift seamlessly “from chamber-like elegance and fragile introspection to exhilarating swing and gritty blues.”

Created by Kat Koppett in association with Freestyle Repertory Theatre in New York, Spontaneous Broadway is a virtouso evening of musical improv.

The audience submits titles of "songs that have never been written". In a fictional "backer's audition", these titles inspire improvised songs in act one. In act two, the audience's favorite song serves as the basis of an entire (45 minute) Broadway musical, complete with costumes and set.

The format received a rave review from The New York Times when it premiered in New York in 1995. You ain’t seen nuttin’ like it, folks!

With his distinct bass tone, Christopher Brown has pleased audiences for more than two decades with his repertoire of musical stories. Chris' special view of the world is portrayed honestly and humorously through his innovative, story-telling lyric, enlivened by a unique blend of folk, country and rock & roll. A reviewer recently wrote, "his sound might best be described as James Taylor meets Johnny Cash."

Chris calls his new album "Characterist". That's because he is not only a singer/songwriter, but an artist/illustrator who can capture a subject's essence through caricature. With a few strokes, he reveals hints of a character's nature or temperament, their mystery or charm. He does the same thing with lyric and melody, outlining and shading characters and moments, even yearnings and states of mind. His deep rumble of a voice can be as direct as an approaching train, yet warm and forgiving.

Chris will be joined by master guitarist and composer Peter Calo.

From 12/2013 Chronogram:

The Warp/The Weft offers trippy freak folk that posits a world where Henry Cow is spoken of in the same hushed tones as the Beatles.

But its esoteric [Brit-inflected] oddness is also its beauty. Murphy's perfect Middle Earth burr, whether it's born of an imaginary Shropshire landscape or not, lilts along like a drug, a draught, or a potion. The band, which occasionally rocks, and just as often shimmers is as deep into the mystery as its leader.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
You will not believe this band.

Really.

Truly.

Trust us.

Join us tonight for a tribute to "The Piano Man"... the one and only Billy Joel. "Songs in the Attic" was conceived by Long Island veteran singer/piano player David Clark. David put the band together in 2011, with a tremendous amount of detail and affection for the material. David's stunningly accurate piano playing and lead vocals--combined with a dynamic and high-energy band--has been astounding audiences ever since.

Billy Joel has had 33 Top 40 hits spanning 3 decades, all written by the man himself. He has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and the Hit Parade Hall of Fame. David Clark is as close to the real deal as you'll ever see. It's like having front row seats at Madison Square Garden. If you're a Joel fan, do not miss this night!!
