SUNDAY BRUNCH
with STUMPGRASS LIVE - an evolution revolution!
bluegrass, country blues, folk, western swing, jazz standar
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The Blue Mountain Band features the warm vocals and presence of Bob Stump. This ensemble delivers a diverse song selection, influenced by bluegrass, country blues, folk, western swing, jazz standards & traditional instrumentals. The original music they present is a unique melting pot of Americana. If you listen close to "Roadside Attraction", the title cut from their bluegrass charged CD, you will hear an Every Brothers chord vamp with a classic Bluegrass "G" and an Irish Scottish fiddle tune. This is a piece of the puzzle that makes this musical hybrid. The stories on these melodic three part harmony waves are the ship the band is sailing.

The Blue Mountain Band is always evolving. Joining Bob will be Roy Coates on bass, banjo & mandolin. Rounding out the ensemble is Johnny Resk on percussion including the cajon. The band has been recording live shows and will be releasing a downloadable CD upon completion - titled STUMPGRASS LIVE.

This is only a piece of the puzzle that makes up this musical hybrid. The stories that float along the top of these melodic waves in three part harmony are the ship the band is sailing to complete the picture. My primary instrument is my voice, and my guitar embellishes, accompanies, and decorates it. My sound and style are my own. Exposure to music and vocal styles of all types, ranging from standards to jazz to folk/traditional to blues, and to the music of Great Britain, the Appalachian Mountains of Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, have influenced my sound and led me to describe my music as "eclectic acoustic." I have opened for Christine Lavin and Dave Cousins and performed in Showcases and the Open Mic Finals at the Towne Crier Cafe in Pawling, NY, and appeared in venues in the Hudson Valley and Southwestern CT. I perform a good mix of songs, including my own compositions, covers, and traditional music. I like to tell the stories of the traditional songs I sing and might focus on the song's provenance, themes, imagery, history, depiction of characters, etc. Listeners tell me that they enjoy learning about this traditional music.

Spring Concert: An Earth Day Celebration
with Kairos: A Consort of Singers
Classical/Opera
Holy Cross Monastery
Route 9W (1615 Broadway)
West Park, NY   See Map
Hear choral music that evokes the beauty and power of the natural world. The concert will feature Aaron Copland's majestic a cappella choral work In the Beginning with Tricia Lewis Agar, alto soloist. The program will include Benjamin Britten's delightful Five Flower Songs, and a set of Renaissance French motets featuring birds, beasts and bugs. Our music will explore the ways that human life mirrors the earth’s seasons in Brahms' beautiful and melancholy Part Songs Op. 104, and the emotions that humans experience as creatures of “mother” earth in Bobby McFerrin's lovely setting of Psalm 23, written in honor of his own mother.

All audience members are invited to a free reception featuring local food and drink, hosted by Holy Cross Monastery immediately following the concert. Come join us for a wonderful afternoon of gorgeous choral music and celebrate spring - and Earth Day! Ticket prices are $15 general admission, $10 seniors and $5 students/youth and are available in advance.

with Jason Casterlin
Country, Roots Music. Americana Rock
The FALCON
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Jason Casterlin has given the music-loving world Old Stone Church, a hooked laden collection of 11 songs that runs the gamut from windows-down Americana rock to Sun Studios-era country. Jason’s band, The Boys, are a throwback to the heyday of Yoakam’s Babylonian Cowboys – a 5-piece outfit that can make you holler or make you weep from one track to the next. Guitars, pedal steel, keys, drums and bass complement Jason’s lyrics and voice the way a handpicked band should. "Old Stone Church" is inspired by Jason’s life with his wife, their golden retrievers, and their home overlooking the Shawangunk Ridge – a setting as suitable for any Yankee making country and roots music.

Originally, from California, composer/drummer ROLAND VAZQUEZ, as a member of Clare Fischer's all-star band "Salsa Picante", played on that group's Grammy winning "Salsa Picante 2+2." Vasquez continued to develop his "funky-salsa-bebop" style with unique compositions for octet, quintet, and big band. His recordings collectively featured performances by a veritable "who's who" of East and West Coast contemporary jazz artists.

Roland's compositions began to evolve toward chamber music, notably his "Piano Analogies". At the American Academy in Rome, he composed nine new works for Quintet & Sextet, toured with Roman composer/pianist Riccardo Fassi, and performed with visiting US artists.

In July '09, Roland received a Recording Grant from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Inc - to record six of his original scores & "Guarabe" by his inspirational mentor, Clare Fischer. The album "The Visitor" is receiving positive responses from media.

Marlboro, NY   See Map
Known as "The Master of the Telecaster," music lovers consider Arlen Roth "the guitarist's guitarist," a brilliant musician, but that's only one aspect of his remarkable 35-year career. He is a highly regarded authority concerning "all things guitar," from writing about guitar playing, to being the inspiration behind their creation, due to his fluent mastery, and rare ability to cross musical genres and playing styles.

He is as comfortable playing an acoustic ballad, (his acoustic version of Layla has been critically acclaimed as being better than Eric Clapton's version) as he is launching into the most powerful version of "When a Man Loves a Woman" ever recorded, which Guitar Player magazine called "likely the most intense workout ever recorded on a Telecaster."

Arlen Roth and his daughter, Lexie, a recording and performing artist in her own right, reside in upstate New York.

She has appeared on her father’s album Toolin’ Around Woodstock with Levon Helm on drums, and sings Vaya Con Dios on the upcoming release of the Les Paul Tribute Album alongside of Keith Richards, Jose Feliciano, Steve Miller, Slash and many other greats. If you were here last October for the first "Boogie Woogie" concert, you know this is a night not to be missed! If you weren't here, make sure to mark your calendars for this repeat performance featuring four outstanding keyboardists in a Boogie Woogie Piano showcase and concert. It is one of the most exciting nights of music ever!

Each performer puts on quite a show, and the finale features all four "dueling" piano players.

This special event recaptures the early American art form of the Swing, Stride and Boogie Woogie Piano style of piano playing. Four accomplished performers will each present their own individual approaches to the form. Each pianist will accompany their own guest vocalist, who also specialize in this particular genre of the Blues and Jazz tradition. Guest vocalists include Diane "Duchess Di" Cricchio, Tommy "Blues Buddha" Dudley, Gail Joy Newman and Susan McMahon.
