Marlboro, NY   See Map
Gustafer Yellowgold has become an international phenomenon, acclaimed by The New York Times, as "A cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss." Entertainment Weekly praised "…The most infectious original songs. It’s like tapping into some pleasure center in the brain- both adult and kid…absurdly appealing. Grade: A."

Gustafer himself is a friendly creature who came to Earth from the sun and is living out an explorer’s life in a slightly psychedelic version of the Minnesota woods. Gustafer Yellowgold’s Show is a multi-media performance of live music, animated illustrations and storytelling.

Rachel Loshak’s specialty is her sophisticated bass & voice style, influenced by classical madrigals and alternative pop. Rachel accompanied Norah Jones at the 2003 Grammy Awards and is featured alongside Jones on the "Best of the Living Room" compilation. Rachel has recorded with Moby, as well as Chris Ballew of Presidents of The United States'.

Margaret Bernstein
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
New York City born Margaret Bernstein is an award winning singer-songwriter, composer and flutist with a unique voice, dynamic lyrics, and a positive and compelling message. Unlike many other songwriters of the pop-rock genre, Margaret is a classically trained musician who is an accomplished instrumental performer as well as a composer. Her musical compositions, which include elements from a diverse spectrum of styles and genres, have been inspired in part by her personal experiences and travels, which include four pilgrimages to India. Her live performances are a testament to Margaret’s amazing versatility, as she quickly segues from playing a Bach Partita on her flute to passionately playing the piano on an upbeat pop song. What makes Margaret stand out, however, is not only her eclectic and interesting background and level of accomplishment as a musician, but also her ability to communicate honestly and personally with her audience at heart level through her songs and music.

Musical selections will include "Timor et tremor" by Orlande de Lassus and "Crucifixus" by Antonio Lotti, as well as works by Gesualdo, Tallis, Purcell, and Ginastera. Admission is free and all are welcome. This service is modeled on the medieval monastic office of Tenebrae (Latin, for darkness) which was part of the observance of Holy Week. The Vinnie Zummo Trio featuring Janice Zummo, Cameron Brown, Ray Marchica , Bill StuartThe Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The Vinnie Zummo Trio is bop based but highly eclectic. At their Falcon performance expect the show to go from breakneck fusion to hard bop, heartbreaking ballads, spacy blues, Zydeco and bluegrass with many stops in between. His approach to playing jazz guitar is unique and languid, with phrasing more akin to a sax than a guitar.

Janice Zummo, long popular on the NYC session scene, is an amazing interpretive singer. At a recent SRO gig at The Bitter End with the trio, she brought audiences to tears with her unique phrasing and depth.

Cameron Brown and Ray Marchica are two of the elite of the New York jazz community. With credits between them that range from Barbara Streisand to Chet Baker you would be hard pressed to find a more swinging rythm section. Along with Janice & Vinnie the band has become as tight as can be with everyone practically breathing together.

Percussionist Bill Stuart joins the band for several songs as well.

1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Singer-songwriter Dario Saraceno, from Newburgh NY, received a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in 1988, and teaches guitar, mandolin, and bass. After years of performing in clubs around the Northeast, he began concentrating on original songs. “Rick Witkowski from Studio L in Weirton, WV had faith in me, my songs and my vocals,” Saraceno says. “When he began dancing behind the mixing board, I knew something good was happening.” Saraceno is now working on his third CD with his band, Dario and the Clear. “Performing songs that mean something to you drives you harder,” he says. “It gives you a real sense of purpose.”

“At the last minute, I was asked to open for Warren Zevon at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY, in 1998,” says Saraceno. This gave me the chance to perform the songs as they were originally written. It was a magical night, because the songs went over well stripped down, and because I got to spend time with Warren. Such a great songwriter.”

Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
John Gorka's soulful, rich, baritone voice mirrors his unique songwriting that has been championed by many, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O'Connell. His lyrics can be whimsically funny or deliver a powerful image with understated clarity and acute perceptiveness. His albums have been praised by the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and many other publications. It's always a pleasure to present John, one of folk's finest songwriter-performers. "Listening to John Gorka sing, one can get goosebumps all over. There are many reasons fresh lyrics, a stunning emotional baritone voice, his twisted humor but to focus on one limits the experience." -New York Times

Market Market Cafe
1 Madeline Lane Route 32
Rosendale, NY   See Map
On the last Friday of the month from now through August, me, Studio Stu will be musically exploding at my favorite joint in the Hudson Valley, Market Market Cafe. Each month I will bring a different, unique blend of eclectic musicians together to mingle in the musically unknown. This month it's Odd City; Gus Mancini, Studio Stu, Peter Head, and T. Xiques (Sitting in for Ken Lovelett).

This is one very cool joint, a bit of Brooklyn in the middle of all these trees. (there are a lot of trees up here)

So, come have a drink, some incredible, and I mean, incredible food, and I'll play my little heart out with the band du jour to soothe yer soul with some tunes that are familiar, yet, not. Come on down and I'll explain it to you...bring your mother too.

David Johansen began his career as the singer of the proto-punk band the New York Dolls in the early '70s. Johansen then embarked on a solo career, performing frequently with Sylvain Sylvain. Later, Johansen's pseudonym and alter ego, Buster Poindexter, appeared with Saturday Night Live's House Band. Johansen turned his attention to country blues with the release of 'David Johansen and the Harry Smiths' and reunited with New York Dolls members in 2005, releasing, "One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This" and "Cause I Sez So" with Todd Rungren, the producer of the Dolls' 1973 debut. The band's latest release, 'Dancing Backward in High Heels', returns to the power-pop sound of the '60s. David continues to host David Johansen's Mansion of Fun, a weekly radio show on Sirius.

Multi-instrumentalist, Brian Koonin, who has been with David through projects including the New York Dolls and The Harry Smiths will accompany David on guitar and drums.

The John Street Jam is the Hudson Valley's most intimate music venue. Come see how we can fit 100 people into only three rows so you're always close to the musicians (better living through geometry!).

Speaking of geometry (or any other school subject), if you've ever had a teacher who inspired you, moved you, or simply helped you get through school, here's your chance to show your appreciation. Tonight we celebrate these unsung heroes of daily life -- in song! All performers in tonight's show are teachers by day and musicians the rest of the time.

Pawling, NY   See Map
Grammy and WC Handy award-winning bluesman Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson's style features a blistering blend of sharp single note leads with powerful chordal self-accompaniment, which has influenced such further influential guitarists as Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler. After serving an apprenticeship alongside the late Magic Sam, from whom he inherited the west-side guitar-style throne, Luther gained an international reputation as a guitarist & vocalist in Muddy Waters' band. By the late '70s, Luther developed his own signature style, characterized by a strong rhythmic component and deeply moving vocal phrasings. You may also remember seeing Luther featured in the legendary Blues Brothers movie ... here's your chance to see him in the Towne Crier's intimate & respected setting!

CCSU Easter-Eve Show In Larchmont
with Carlos Colina & Straight Up
Blues, Jazz
Watercolor Cafe
2094 Boston Post Road
Larchmont , NY   See Map
Although the Watercolor is a very different type of room for Straight Up, Carlos will NOT be dressed in a pink bunny suit at this Easter-eve show as has been suggested by several fans. The Water Color is a much classier joint than that. The shows we do there might even be described as 'CCSU Unplugged': somewhat quieter than the bands jet-engine roar so as not to interrupt conversation and digestion. Water Color has a top-notch kitchen there; why not come early and treat yourselves to dinner? Reservations suggested: 914-834-2213
