SUNDAY BRUNCH
with The Compact with Erin Hobson, Steven W. Ross
Singer-Songwriter
The Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
The song-writing team of Erin Hobson and Steven Ross churn out songs that surprise. This one-of-a-kind ensemble weaves tapestries of musical fare with unexpected depth and sensitivity. The duet’s live show is uplifting and textured - combining musical styles into a sound that’s totally new. Hobson has performed nationally, opening for Blue Oyster Cult, Hoobastank, The Bret Michael Band, Dave Mason and Jakob Dylan. She is known for her poetic lyrics, masterful guitar technique and unique vocal quality is intimate while her guitar virtuosity and explosive phrasing is anything but soft. The combination often startles Multi-instrumentalist; Ross has scored and played for radio, TV and film, including two original songs in the 2010 Sundance award-winning mock rockumentary “Colin Fitz Lives!” Steven’s arrangements and “never sag, never brag” bass lines are inventive, unique melodic grooves that define The Compact’s sound.

with Jason Casterlin & The Tall Boys
Americana, Country, and Roots Music. Rock
The Falcon
1348 Route 9W
Marlboro, NY   See Map
Jason’s band, The Tall Boys, are a throwback to the heyday of Yoakam’s Babylonian Cowboys – a 5-piece outfit that can make you holler or make you weep from one track to the next. Guitars, pedal steel, keys, drums and bass complement Jason’s lyrics and voice the way a hand-picked band should. Jason has been a mainstay on the Hudson Valley live music scene for over decade – first in one of the region’s most beloved cover bands, Maria’s Basement, and then as a founding member of the alt.country band, The Woodcocks. With his solo career taking off fast, Jason has already shared the stage with the likes of James Otto, Jimmy Wayne, Easton Corbin, Billy Currington, Blackberry Smoke, Ryan Bingham, to name a few. Old Stone Church is inspired by Jason’s life with his wife, their golden retriever, and their home overlooking the Shawangunk Ridge – a setting as suitable as any for a Yankee making country and roots music.

Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street

With a solid consort of personal angst and melancholia, paired with subtle dialogues among unlikely lovers, Shane Loverro is indubitably headed for an adventurous career. Prolific in his own encapsulated nature, he finds his muse, tucks himself away, and then he does what he knows best. He writes. His record, Never This Far Down, which was recorded in SoHo and Brewster, NY was completed in April of 2012, just in time for his 24th birthday. The record displays the range of his many influences as well as the magnitude of his apparent originality. The songs are extremely personal yet applicable to anyone who simply takes the time to listen to them and absorb their brilliance. Rendering words of solitude, beauty of the past, the present, and the future. Lending one’s ears to the record is more like reading the diary of a madman

Unitarian Fellowship
67 South Randolph Ave.
Poughkeepsie, NY   See Map
The Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Hudson Valley Folk Guild continues its 2012-2013 coffee house series on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Unitarian Fellowship, South Randolph Ave., Poughkeepsie. The coffeehouse performances start at 7:30 pm with an open-mic format followed by featured performer, Kathy Moran. Kathy Moran is a singer songwriter whose songs touch the heart and tickle the funny bone. They range from storytelling and ballads to spirituals, the blues and parodies. Kathy accompanies herself on guitar primarily but also adds a bit of djembe and dulcimer to her performances. For Kathy, writing songs is a way to connect with people. She writes about life's lessons, dreams and stories. Her songs have been covered as far away as Ireland, where a band is currently performing one of her songs about an Irish woman who decided at age 106 that she wanted to get married!

Admission to the coffeehouse is $6, general admission and $5 for Folk Guild members and seniors.

But let's be clear: Mopco is not affiliated with any state Lottery games.
