Andy Statman Trio
Bluegrass, Jazz, and World. Jewish Spiritual
Common Ground Coffeehouse
25 Old Jackson Avenue
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
“Andy Statman, clarinet and mandolin virtuoso, is an American visionary” — The New Yorker

” … One of the most important Jewish creative artists of the postwar era.” — The Jerusalem Post

Bill Monroe and John Coltrane poured into one person. .. He plays all those just great crazy jazz kind of licks, but with the heart and fire of Bill Monroe … I don’t know anyone else that approaches the mandolin the way he does.” —Ricky Skaggs, NPR

Had there been a planetarium in 19th century Galicia, or a kosher deli in Depression-era Kentucky, Andy Statman’s music might have been playing in the background. Meandering through time, geography and culture, the man and his inimitable hybrid sound move freely among the before, the after, and the present. Andy Statman, one of his generation’s premier mandolinists and clarinetists, thinks of his compositions and performances as “spontaneous American-roots music and personal, prayerful hasidic music, by way of avant-garde jazz.”

Acoustic Cafe Music Series
25 Fremont Ave
Park Ridge, NJ   See Map
An all-star cast consisting of Kim & Reggie Harris, Magpie, John Flynn, Pat Wictor, Greg Greenway and George Wurzbach will perform THE SONGS OF PHIL OCHS at the Acoustic Café. The evening will be hosted by Phil's sister, Sonny Ochs, who is still an active figure in the folk community. The performers will also include some of their own songs, and Sonny will add historical and biographical notes to put these songs in the context of the era and the times.

Phil was one of the seminal figures of the 60's Folk movement, perhaps the most incisive topical songwriter of the times, an artist whom Bob Dylan alternately admired and envied. A measure of the greatness of his songs is that most of them are still getting more and more relevant as they approach their 50th anniversaries. Traditional After Thanksgiving Concert
with The Grand Slambovians
Americana, Rock (progressive), and Alternative
Bearsville Theater
291 Tinker Street
Woodstock, NY   See Map
It’s universally accepted that no other band exemplifies the DIY attitude – their ‘hillbilly Pink Floyd’ sound, albums, memorable concerts, bootlegs, videos, hell, they even have their own coffee – like The Grand Slambovians, the Hudson Highlands’ champion DIY’ers.

But to be completely candid, that’s old news. The real honest-to-goodness news is what quantum researchers call The Slambovian Vibe: an entirely distinctive unification of heart and mind; of souls dancing in a familial, tribal, and communal spirit inspired by irreplaceable rock ‘n roll. Global Slambovians wildly applauding, cheering, exhorting the band, and themselves, to greater heights of human kindness.

There really is peace in the world when Joziah tells his tales, Tink takes up her accordion, Eric conjures Keith Moon, and Skarkey unveils yet another anthemic guitar solo. All the outside noise and turmoil dissipates. Isn’t that what Thanksgiving tradition is all about? Family and peace. So please join us!

Marc Von Em's sound is rooted in Blues, Folk, Rock and Reggae. His fluid acoustic guitar playing and rich powerful voice will blow you away. Marc has toured nationally and internationally with the Rob Thomas Band. Rob remarked, "I asked him to open up a 10,000 seat gig. Just him, his guitar, and his songs. He killed it!" Marc has also shared bills with Lucy Kaplansky, Martin Sexton, Richie Havens, Glenn Tillbrook and others.

Marc's 4th studio recording, "CRASH BOOM POW", has been selling like gangbusters. From solo acoustic performances to full band funk, this recording runs the gamut of styles while Marc's unmistakable voice and stellar guitar playing form a cohesive glue that bonds the music together. Marc will be performing with a full band tonight, featuring Erik Perez on drums, John DeCrescente on bass and special guest, Jon Cobert on keys.
