Saturday 8:00 pm | The Linda Presents with Chris Smither Blues, Folk/Traditional, and Singer-Songwriter | The Linda WAMC's Performing Arts Studio 339 Central Ave Albany, NY See Map |
If you've ever caught one of Chris Smither's live performances, you know it's hard not to come away knocked out by the amount of music that comes out of one man. His guitar playing is remarkably fluid. His songs are gleaming bits of gold performed in a variety of styles. They seem so casual with everyday language drawled over fine blues fingerpicking and the happy tip-tap of his shoes that it's easy to overlook how artful and deep they are. Its clear that Smither is now at the peak of his creative powers.Back in the old days," muses resilient troubadour Chris Smither, "writing new songs and making new albums were just chores. My priority was, and still is, performing live. I guess I still write the songs and make the records so that I can go out and play - except that now I actually look forward to it. Buy Tickets | ||

| Marie Chabot grew up listening to all kinds of music -- from the old country records of her dad (Patsy Cline and Hank Williams) to the singer/songwriters of the 70s & 80s -- James Taylor, Janis Ian, Karla Bonoff, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell, to the rock records of her brother -- Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, and Jethro Tull. Add that to a full range of piano and guitar lessons, a history of singing in the church choir -- what a combo! Marie's quest for a truly meaningful song with a good beat -- has led her to some odd covers, and some beautifully written originals. She has performed in New England coffeehouses, Nashville clubs, beach resorts in the Carolinas, as well as 6-month gigs in Japan as a piano/vocalist, and a solo tour of Sweden and Norway. Locally, she performs as a solo artist as well as a big band singer with New England's SOS swing band. | ||

| We’re over the moon about our new CD, Love Remembered, Love Forgot.. It’s got guest appearances by our friends Tom Rush, Jonatha Brooke, Krista Detor, Pat Wictor, Trina Hamlin, Eric Schwartz, Yani Batteau, and Sophie Buskin. It’s got a dee-vine rhythm section: besides our third arm, percussionist Marshal Rosenberg, there are Jeff St. Pierre (bass), Kevin Barry (guitars), and Corey Schreppel (drums). We took our time about it, followed hunches, listened, went back and tried different sounds, added songs, dropped songs – you know, the way it’s supposed to be: “Don’t give it to me Tuesday, give it to me good.” "It was such a treat to sing with David Buskin again. Like coming home. He and Robin still have the instinct for the killer hook. And the break-your-heart story line."-Jonatha Brooke “Buskin and Batteau never fail to astonish me — and I mean that in the nicest way.”– Tom Rush | ||

Friday 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm | Hottest NYC act heading to Mohegan Lake with The Score, The Rhett Tyler Band Pop/Soft Rock | The Winery at St. George 1715 E. Main Street Mohegan Lake, NY See Map |
| Every now and then a band emerges with such musical precision and pop sensibility that their star quality is undeniable. The Score is one of those bands. Part rock star, part soul crooner, front-man Eddie Anthony drives the quintet with unabashed confidence and heart-wrenched emotion together with arranger, producer and jazz piano maestro Edan Dover. The Score combines Motown era nostalgia with contemporary edge, blending pop choruses and modern production techniques to make a sound that is truly their own. From the jazz-infused horns in "Not Just Another Way" to the aggressive Motown sway of "Hit List" and the torch song "Almost," The Score knows how to mix rock n' roll grit and summer-driving-windows-down pop. Since this past winter, the band has been charging forward with collection of songs in the form of their debut EP, due out in late summer 2012. Calendar of events | ||
