Saugerties, NY   See Map
Join a field team to census butterflies in Esopus Bend Nature Preserve, or one of dozens of other local sites as a participant in the fifth annual Eastern Catskills North American Butterfly Association (NABA) “Fourth of July” Butterfly Count on Saturday, June 30, 2012. Rain Date: Sunday, July 01, 2012

The Eastern Catskills count circle includes a number of productive butterfly locations in northern Ulster, southeastern Greene, and western Dutchess Counties, including Poet's Walk Preserve, Esopus Bend Nature Preserve, The Great Vly WMA, Onteora State Park, Overlook Mountain, Lower Platte Clove, the eastern end of Ashokan Reservoir, and extensive open meadows in the Town of Ulster.  Participants will be assigned to a field party to census one or more target locations within the 15-mile diameter count circle.

Each field party will be assigned at least one individual knowledgeable in butterfly identification, so you don't need to be a butterfly expert to participate.  Full-day participation is not required, but you should be able to commit four to eight hours from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  If you are interested in joining one of the field teams, or have additional questions about participating in a NABA Butterfly Count, please contact Steve Chorvas at schorvas@verizon.net no later than June 24.

M R Poulopoulos
Singer-Songwriter, Blues, and Acoustic
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Sweetly melodic and often melancholy, as well as intelligent and soulful, Poulopoulos’s songs, like him, are honest and eloquent. His guitar playing makes you want to tap your feet, or cry a little. Sometimes both. His lyrics, complemented by the steady strum or picked out tones of the guitar, always tell a story — some are sad, some are happy, and some, like his song “On and On,” achieve both with a humorous spin — and they’re always poignant.

His musical influences vary, but their common foundation is American blues and roots music. His many influences lend him to the acoustic singer/songwriter style, but without sounding like anyone in particular—his music is very much his own.

Buried in Blue is one of the BEST party bands in the county... lead guitarist Tom Dowd is known for his lightning-fast guitar work, clear, soaring vocals and fresh, compelling arrangements that span Rock, Blues, R&B and Pop classics. The band features the inimitable Tom Dowd on vocals and lead guitar (and this man can PLAY guitar!), Jaynie "Blonde Thunder" D'Agostino on percussion, Pete McGregor on drums, Barry "Buzzy" Garriola on bass and Kevin McSweeney rhythm guitar, who provides the unshakable and perfectly-chosen solos that make each song a new classic. As one reviewer writes: "If you want to catch an incredible live performance of Classic Rock, Pop and Blues with pitch-perfect vocals, powerful drums, and some hot Hendrix-style guitar, see these guys soon....Buried in Blue is buried in talent."

Acoustic, Americana, and Singer-Songwriter
Albany St.
Glasco
Saugerties, NY   See Map
The Saugerties Area Chamber of Commerce and Café Mezzaluna invite you to an evening of great music featuring three outstanding local acts.

The Virginia Wolves have a sound unique to the folk-indie scene, featuring Kelly's complex guitar work and Adele's soft and moody French horn. They weave together harmonies in multi-colored braids that support intricately-crafted songs of love and life.

Vince Sauter is a veteran singer-songwriter with a an ear for great melodies and a voice that soothes like ice cream on a warm summer night. His songs are personal, yet universal, and his guitar playing goes far beyond mere accompaniment -- it's an integral part of the performance.

CB Smith is a songwriter whose literate and intelligent lyrics are framed by catchy melodies and and supported by virtuoso guitar playing. The Lucky Devils are one of the area's tightest bluegrass bands and while their musicianship never fail to impress, they never obscure the beauty of the songs.

Orlando formed his first band, Eddie Palmieri and his Orchestra and, since then, has played with several different bands and has performed in the famous Palladium Ballroom. In 1997, Latin music historiographer Max Salazar presented Orlando a plaque in recognition of nearly five decades of uninterrupted contribution to Latin music. In January 2003, Orlando was invited by Latin Jazz station, WPFW, by the Arlington County (Virginia) Cultural Arts Division, and by the Latin American Folk Institute to do a live concert in Washington at The Spectrum Theater and in 2006, Congressman Jose E. Serrano honored Orlando as “The Last Mambo King,” for his continuing to provide Latin American music and his willingness to devote time to helping the less fortunate.

MOPCO brings its unique brand of improv -- Friday nights at 8:00pm.

"You Never Know..." is, well, darn it all, it's unpredictable.

On any given Friday night, the audience might take part in Play Dough Theatre, or judge a grudge match between two improv directors, or take to the stage in one of the many audience participation games the company offers, or sing along in a rousing improvised chorus, or....hey, you never know.

But let's be clear: Mopco is not affiliated with any state Lottery games.

Ticket Prices: $14 Adults, $6 Students & Seniors (available at the Box Office)
