Sunday 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm | Freebo Singer-Songwriter, Folk/Traditional, and Country | Hootenanny Cafe Mini Concerts Online: www.wtbq.com or 93.5FM, NY See Map |
| Freebo is more than a beloved musician, he’s an institution. Most famous for the funkified precision and fluid soul of his bass playing for Bonnie Raitt, he’s also a longtime beloved studio cat, a musician’s musician, sought out for his greatness in the studio by everyone from Ringo and Dr. John to CSN, Aaron Neville, Maria Muldaur and the late great Willie DeVille. But Freebo is more than a great bass player- he’s also a richly gifted and distinctive songwriter, as expressive in his writing as on a bass. His song about homelessness -“When There’s No Place Like Home,” is dauntingly poignant- aiming high, to write a song about a subject so hopeless without being hopelessly maudlin or cliché. Freebo writes with an easy grace, as simple and right as the beautifully understated arrangement. Freebo’s time is now. | ||

Monday 8:00 pm | The Linda Is proud to welcome Legendary Texas songwriter with Ray Wylie Hubbard Singer-Songwriter | The Linda WAMC's Performing Arts Studio 339 Central Ave Albany, NY See Map |
Anyone who's followed Ray Wylie Hubbard over the long and winding path he has traveled already knows he possesses the kind of exceptional gift for observation that any songwriter yearns for. His sense of wonder is tempered by an accumulated wisdom and knowledge that comes with experience that has elevated him into the Wylie Lama of Texas Music, freely imparting songwriting verities to all kinds of aspiring musicians, which allows him to lay all his cards on the table and let the listener decide what it all means. It wasn't that long ago that Ray Wylie Hubbard allowed to an acquaintance that he wouldn't mind being a hybrid of Guy Clark and John Lee Hooker. Now, I'm no seer or mystic, but my instincts suggest that wish came true.Ray Wylie Hubbard writes the kind of songs that make you want to ride along no matter where he's going, because you know it's gonna get strange somewhere along the way. Saturday 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm | Saturday Night Americana with Bob Stump Americana, Bluegrass, and Acoustic | Wild Hive Bakery & Caf'e Salt Point Tpke Clinton Corners, NY See Map |
This is a good place to hear music .A great rustic atmosphere. So come on down and enjoy..I am predicting a new "folk revival" due to the upcoming movie that the Cohen Brothers are working on.
As you may know they produced Oh Brother Where Art Thou and brought a lot of attention to Bluegrass music. This new movie is inspired by a book based on "the mayor of McDougal street" Dave Van Ronk . He was the renowned folk blues icon that helped spawn folk artists including Bob Dylan in Greenwich Village in the early 60's. Well, I'm getting a head start on all this and bringing back some tunes that have been sleeping in my guitar for a while. I'll be waking these up Saturday night May 19th 6:30 PM at the Wild Hive Caf'e ,Clinton Corners , NY .Helping me out will be my old pal John "JP" Potter on guitar and vocals. We will be playing a great mix of Americana, blues, folk, pop & original tunes. Maybe some special guests too. See you there-Bobcheck out the web site for a review | ||

Incorporating acoustic instruments and elements of Old Time, blues, jazz and modern music, these shanty rockers from Binghamton, NY have put together a traditional/original show that’s nothing short of world class music. Driftwood’s virtuosity is matched by their versatility and they are able to play sweet and sultry ballads with as much drive and passion as an up-tempo romp. That's why Driftwood has been in high demand by Upstate New York audiences since their 2006 formation. Born on the banks of the Hudson River and out of the ashes of the roots rock group Whiskey Logic, SOUTH COUNTY blends together rockabilly, country and blues in their own unique brand of super-charged Americana. Centered around a homemade washtub bass and a drum kit consisting in part of a wooden crate and tin cans, SOUTH COUNTY modernizes old time music for the new millennia.
