A Closing Celebration for 2011 Season for Nonviolence Special Screening of Soundtrack for a Revolution. Tue, April 5, 7:00pm, $10 donation The Season for Nonviolence is a national 64-day educational, media & grass-roots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that non-violence is a powerful way to heal, transform, & empower lives and communities. High Meadow School and The Rosendale Theatre Collective are joining to produce a concluding celebration of the Season for Nonviolence that will feature a screening of the documentary “Soundtrack For A Revolution”, which tells the story of the American civil rights movement through its powerful music. The freedom songs protesters sang on picket lines, in mass meetings, in paddy wagons, & in jail cells as they fought for justice and equality. The film features new performances of the freedom songs by top artists, including John Legend, Joss Stone, Wyclef Jean, & The Roots; riveting archival footage; and interviews with civil rights foot soldier. | ||

Born in Havana, Cuba, Tony Leon launched his singing career with Los Melodicos. He went on to work with the Niño Rivera Group and the distinguished Modelo de Miguelito Cuni band. Tony arrived in New York in 1979 and became soloist for renowned trumpeter and orchestra leader Alfredo 'Chocolate' Armenteros. Their album, Prefiero el Son, recorded with S.A.R. Records, went gold. His years with Chocolate included group concerts, where he worked alongside music greats such as Roberto Torres, Linda Leida, Papaito, Alfredito de la Fe, Alfredo Valdes, Jr. and Marino Solano. In 1987, he became the lead singer for José Fajardo y Sus Estrellas. It was the legendary flutist and band leader, José Antonio Fajardo who gave Tony his title: El Leon del Bolero. Tony has performed in concerts with Willie Chirino, Ray Baretto, David Valentino, Cachao, Hansel y Raul, Tito Puente and Johnny Pacheco. He continues to delight audiences with his unique voice and mastery of the bolero. Admission $10 | ||

Folk roots duo Mike + Ruthy will celebrate the first-ever recording of the new Woody Guthrie song “My New York City” as well as five other tracks also featured on their new CD The NYC EP on Friday, April 6th at 8:00 pm at the Beacon Theatre Lobby Series (445 Main Street, Beacon, NY). Fred Scribner, aka Midnight Slim, is a former member of The Levon Helm and is on Helm's "The Midnight Ramble Vol. 1". Scribner was also the driving force behind Little Sammy Davis and Midnight Slim, the House Band for Imus in the Morning Show, for almost 20 years.
Midnight Slim and Little Sammy Davis were nominated for the W.C. Hagen, a New Jersey-based singer-songwriter brings her songs to life with gentle sincerity and tongue-in-cheek musings through her depiction of the human experience in today's economic and social climates.
