Two Legends, ACOUSTIC BLUES AT IT'S FINEST!! Don't miss it!

“Stefan Grossman has done just about everything one can do in the field of music. He has been..., a performer, a recording artist, a record company founder, a video producer,... a teacher, and a music historian. But it is his success in illuminating country blues, ragtime, and fingerstyle guitar techniques that has made him, in the words of Dave Van Ronk, ‘one of the most important people in fingerpicking guitar in the history of the phenomenon.’” – Acoustic Guitar

Steve Katz also studied guitar with Dave Van Ronk and the Reverend Gary Davis. Steve and Stefan were both part of the early 60s Greenwich Village Folk and Blues scene. Along with John Sebastian, Maria Muldaur, and David Grisman they formed the Even Dozen Jug Band. Steve then went on to The Blues Project, and of course he's best known as a founding member of Blood Sweat and Tears. Not to mention VP of Mercury Records!

An Acapella Extravaganza
with Dorraine , Phantoms Acapella
Acapella
Bearsville Theater
291 Tinker Street
Woodstock, NY   See Map
Featuring special guests, emceed by Kimberly Kay the Phantoms are Joe Veillette, Charlie Staxx, Brian Becker, Dorraine Scofield, Jasmine Veillette, Charlie Pistone and Jerry Mitnick. Acapella resists modern recording techniques. Click tracks, isolation booths, one-at-a-time overdubs all seem to dilute this style born of vocal groups imitating big band sounds with nothing but voices. Acapella thrives on the stoop, the subway station, and the tiled hallways of New York and Philadelphia. The Phantoms bring their twenty years of experience, and their keen ears to a style whose origins go back half a century. So kick back and discover Woodstock's best kept secret. Sure we have festivals, but when we want a real party…. this is who we call!

Phantom fan, John Sebastian $15 *** The Phantoms have sung and recorded with Eddie Money, Rick Danko, Jorma Kaukonen and Hot Tuna, John Sebastian, Mick Ronson Father Guido Sarducci(!), and Soupy Sales.

The Borderline is delighted to be the venue of choice for Loretta Hagen's CD release party. The album is entitled "Mud and Stone" and is Loretta's 3rd CD. Loretta is a gifted songwriter with a sweet alto voice and a fantastic stage presence that lets her bond with her audience. She writes songs about real life events which although drawn from personal experience, are about situations in life that all of us can relate to and have experienced at one time or another. When Loretta Hagen performs, each audience member feels like she is speaking directly to them about something that is important in their lives. Besides playing excellent guitar herself, Loretta will be accompanied by her husband, Gary Hagen on rhythm guitar, and Linda Lambiase on harmony vocals and djembe. Opening the show is singer songwriter Christopher Brown from Westchester County, NY who is one of the brightest male stars on the folk music horizon. The lovely Mara Levine will be our guest emcee for the afternoon.

Chatham Street made their debut CD, “Last One Out”, in October of 2010. Since then they received 13 songwriting awards. The song “Over Now” - a song about the death of Christal's brother – was recently shopped for movie placement. They’ve performed in venues and festivals throughout the USA, including NPR's "Acoustic Café. They call their sound "New Americana" – a mix of multiple musical influences, from old-time gospel, bluegrass, rootsy-folk, contemporary rock and pop music. Christal’s vocals have been described as a cross between Celtic and southern “down-home”, and they soar over Peter’s tasteful vintage guitar.Their second CD, "All That Mattered”, was released on September 10, 2011. The first track on the CD, "White Liar", claimed the title of "Finalist" for the 2011 Worldwide Singer Songwriter Contest. "These Days" is a finalist in the 2011 Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest, and "The Gate" has been picked up by a Boston firm.
