 With roots in Brooklyn’s unconventional brass band scene, Apocalypse Five and Dime delivers both harmonic, ukulele-laced tunes and wild, foot-stomping numbers backed by sousaphone and marching bass drum.
The seven-piece lineup includes banjo, fiddle, sax, trombone, ukulele, bass drum and tuba, with three members contributing vocals. Songs range widely in feeling and style, drawing on the sounds of Balkan brass bands, old time folk, soul, do-wop, punk, metal, early jazz, and modern dance pop. The band released its first EP, Underwater, in 2010, and will release a full-length debut this spring. |

This freewheeling, improvisation based ensemble utilizes electric and acoustic instruments to channel "sounds of the universe" through thematic composition, sonic landscapes and global rhythms. This incarnation features Gus Mancini (reeds) Damon Banks (electric bass) and Joakim Lartey (percussion) This group will be making its debut recording in the fall of 2011.
Holland Hopson/James Keepnews is a duo that has been involved in electro-acoustic improvisation for the past 15 years, beginning when they met in the electronics arts graduate program (iEAR) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. HH/JK's CD Hunting and Gathering, "improvised-to-ADAT", was celebrated for its cutting edge explorations of instrumental and electronic improvised music. Their BSP performance in June will be their first appearance as a duo in over five years. |

Kevin McKrell has been a founding member of some very popular bands -- first and foremost Celtic group Donnybrook Fair, and his namesake band, Celtic Bluegrass band The McKrells. This singer/songerwriter has appeared on the stage of Carnegie Hall to standing ovations, and has shared other stages with the Furey Brothers, The Battlefield Band, Altan, Mary Black, Solas, Travis Tritt, Lonestar, Allison Krause and Sam Bush, to name a few. He has performed at many of the top Irish, Bluegrass and Folk Festivals. His musical talents have been showcased all over the U.S. and Ireland.  Lawrence Anthony ("LA" as he is affectionately known) has been entertaining for a long time. The power and seduction of music drew LA to sing, play and entertain. Combine Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass and James Brown, and you get LA's signature style: "old school romance" and soulful, heart-pounding funk! His unique registry as a bass/baritone singer brings passion and fire to the romantic songs that are an important part of this musical experience. LA has performed with the legendary Intruders as well as on many "Motown Review" assignments. He is currently the bass/baritone singer and co-founder of "Tradition", a wonderful "classic soul" singing group. LA has been heard as a radio personality on his own "Quite Storm" show on 91.1 WOSS in New York. He has been seen in commercials and on documentaries for public and commercial television.

 The group features some of the community’s most respected musicians, and performs regularly in the New York tri-state area; venues range from local clubs and cafes to outdoor festivals. Fronting the band with a vocal style that has been compared to Aretha Franklin’s is Rhonda Dene’t. On keyboards is the legendary Jon Cobert, a five-time Grammy-nominated musician who was, most famously, in John Lennon’s band during the 1970’s; more recently Jon has performed with Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews. On guitar and vocals is Chris Fox, who has opened for nationally-known acts in Manhattan such as Dave Crosby. Chris also writes the band’s original songs. On bass is Tony Tino, who has toured and recorded with Gavin DeGraw, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, Clay Aiken, Ronnie Spector, and many others. On drums is Denny McDermott who has toured with David Johansen and recorded with Donald Fagen of Steely Dan. |

 This Old Ghost is a 5-piece pop-folk group from Westchester, NY. The band is made up of Ian McGuinness (Lead Vocals & Guitar), Karri Diomede (Lead Vocals & Flute), Ryan Sniffen (Guitar & Vocals), Rob Pizzolato (Drums) and Brendan Coughlin (Bass). The group formed in late December of 2010 when McGuinness decided to move back to NY from California where he had spent a year and a half exploring other creative endeavors. Within a week of McGuinness’ return, the band had already started working on and arranging demos. This Old Ghost is currently gearing up to record their debut EP in May with friend and engineer Eliot Gellar of Gellar Cellar Studios in Mahopac, NY. The group is hoping for a late summer release and plans to make their currently untitled EP downloadable for free.

 Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. He was a principle leader in the wave of singer/songwriters that emerged from the Boston folk scene, creating a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk pop style that helped renew interest in the genre in the 1990s. Ellis' charismatic, personally authentic performance style has influenced a generation of artists away from the artifice of pop, and closer towards the realness of folk. Though he remains among the most pop-friendly of today's singer-songwriters - his songs regularly appear in hit movie and TV soundtracks - he has bridged the gulf between the modern folk sound and the populist traditions of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger more successfully than perhaps any of his songwriting peers.

Mohonk Mountain House requested a reprise of this lovely summer concert, first performed there in June 2010, for its Music on the Mountain Week 2011.
Danielle and Barbara will perform refreshing classical and contemporary songs in English, French and Brazilian by Villa-Lobos (the Bachianas Brasileiras #5 - both movements, not just the famous vocalise Aria), Faure, and American composers Robert Baksa, Ned Rorem, Aurora Northland and Danielle Woerner. The artists have collaborated for many years in recitals, programs by Ars Choralis, and recording for Albany Records. Come enjoy the magic!

Piano man extraordinaire Dave Keyes is our special guest this time around. Dave was often the accompanist for folk music legend Odetta during the final decade of her career and has worked with a who's who of roots music legends including Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Ruth Brown, Tracy Nelson and many more. For 6 years Dave was the conductor for the smash Broadway musical Smokey Joe's Cafe. The list of achievements goes on: "A delightful blend of blues and roots-rock piano stylings with solid straight ahead vocals that imbue each song with energy. His affection for this music is obvious."
