Yes, we may play a few languorous ballads, but that's just for the older thrashers and bloody rum coves to take a breather, perhaps slug down a shot of tequila laced with geritol and reflect on the soul-stirring piety of Kurt's lyrical broadsides thundering organized religion, or Fran's rocking redaction of Elizabethen conjurations. I think what Kurt meant up there ^ is that just because Shakespeare makes great fodder for our faux-Celtic rock and roll, doesn't mean that the music takes a back seat to the intelligent, literate lyrics and hauntingly catchy melodies.

Maybe.

FRED EAGLESMITH, guest David Ray
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter, and Comedic
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
A fiercely independent and original artist, Fred Eaglesmith's devoted fans follow him from one show to another to savor what one reviewer calls the "fury and fun" of his concerts -- frequently as hilarious as the best stand-up comedians. Drawing from folk, country, rock, gospel, old-time music and bluegrass (he's the only Canadian to ever write a #1 bluegrass hit), Eaglesmith's 17 albums over the last three decades have consistently evoked critical raves while also hitting the upper reaches of americana charts. He's been compared to a broad blue-ribbon list of musical icons, and his fellow songwriters regularly record his songs and sing his praises. Martin Scorsese and James Caan have used his compositions in film projects. His songs have even become part of the course curriculum at two colleges, and the paintings he creates have been shown in numerous prestigious galleries. The New Yorker magazine said it best: "If you're missing Eaglesmith, you're really missing out."

This 7-piece band -- with classic horn section, double-bass, killer keyboards and Duchess Di at center stage -- will drive you to distraction with their very unique style of risque Blues, Swing and Jump, and American roots music like rockabilly and early Rock and Roll. Their repertoire from the 40's and 50's include covers by artists such as Ruth Brown, Dinah Washington, Louis Jordan, and Louis Prima. In true '40's Diva style, the Duchess croons into the mic, wearing a gardenia in her hair and dresses that cling to every curve. These guys are "red hot and real gone!" Be sure to call for dinner reservations 'cause this band packs the house!

40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Both Robert Oaks & Katherine Smith were born into musical families and started performing at a very young age. Robert began as a kid singing and playing bass guitar with his blues-singing father's band, and later, he played and sang in countless garage bands with his brother John and friends from surrounding New Jersey towns. Kate, whose grandfather, aunts and uncles, father and mother all sang, started harmonizing as a teenager with her parents' Connecticut-based choral group. She then went on to perform musical theater and pop songs in school shows. Robert and Kate met in 2007 while Robert was working on his 2009 album 'Heart Broken Open'. Kate contributed vocals and artwork to that project, and the two quickly realized there was even more to be drawn from this collaboration. The duet formed in the winter of 2010, as they began arranging some of Robert's earlier material and writing new songs together.

GARNET ROGERS, guest Shawn Taylor
Acoustic, Singer-Songwriter
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Garnet Rogers has established himself as "One of the major talents of our time." Hailed by the Boston Globe as a "charismatic performer and singer," Garnet is a man with a powerful physical presence --close to six and a half feet tall-- with a voice to match. With his "smooth, dark baritone" (Washington Post) his incredible range, and thoughtful, dramatic phrasing, Garnet is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the finest singers anywhere. His music --like the man himself-- is literate, passionate, highly sensitive, and deeply purposeful. Cinematic in detail, his songs "give expression to the unspoken vocabulary of the heart" (Kitchener Waterloo Record). An optimist at heart, Garnet sings extraordinary songs about people who are not obvious heroes and of the small victories of the everyday. As memorable as his songs, his over-the-top humour and lightning-quick wit moves his audience from tears to laughter and back again.
