Danny Schmidt, Chuck E. Costa
Singer-Songwriter, Americana, and Acoustic
Common Ground Coffeehouse
25 Old Jackson Avenue
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter, Danny Schmidt has been building an enthusiastic (nearly cult-like) following while simultaneously inspiring the admiration of his fellow artists and critical acclaim from industry professionals. He is the real deal, an authentic timeless troubadour in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Dave Carter, who delivers his craft with a quiet power, a level of complexity, and an underlying humanity that is truly rare in this age of sound bite marketeering. Opening the evening will be a similarly gifted songwriter. Chuck E. Costa's candid and visceral delivery of literate and well-crafted contemporary folk tunes has steadily raised his profile on the national club, coffeehouse and festival circuits. This is one show not to be missed.

Since the last millennium the artistry of David Reed (aka Dr. Easy)has been earning respect from audiences and critics alike throughout the northeast USA, Europe and the Caribbean. A founding member of the seminal jam rock band, Max Creek in 1971, Reed has since developed into a delightful fingerstyle acoustic guitarist & multi-instrumentalist (ever heard a 'Reggae Banjo' or a conch shell 'TuTu'?), explorational singer/songwriter, way-cool whistler and seasoned performer. The good "Dakta" brings a smile to the face and a tap to the toe of young and old with his sensational blend of rockin' NewFolk, rompin' ragtime, snappy country blues, inspired original songs and wonderous interpretations of many other popular artists' songs . . . all served up with a dash of spicy, sun-drenched Caribbean reggae & calypso.

Julie Corbalis sings songs not only of her life, but in a small part, yours, too. The relateability of these songs keeps her fan base coming back again and again. You get the sense when you listen to her that this is "a woman who has lived hard, loved hard, fallen hard and has picked herself up to do it again, regretting nothing." In her first solo effort, "Old Flames and New Names," Jules pours out her heart about past loves and "family stuff" and what results is a soulful collection of songs you'll be nursing your next broken heart to.

Jules says her influences include bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Black Crowes as well as solo artists like Sheryl Crow. She'll be playing originals as well as some pop/rock covers. Join us for another entertaining Singer/Songwriter Sunday.

Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
Join us at Common Ground Downtown for a night of dancing to Matt Munisteri and His Syncopated Detonators, playing swinging music from the 1920s-1940s. The group features Matt Munisteri on guitar, Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, Danton Boller on bass, Joe Barbato on accordian — and a drummer to be named later.

Bandleader and guitarist Matt Munisteri is a Brooklyn native who grew up as almost assuredly the only bluegrass banjo player on his block. His lifelong interest in early American music led him from Country and Ragtime guitar, through Blues, to Tin Pan Alley and Jazz – all by the eighth grade. His own compositions and playing reflect this life-long devotion to the history of American Popular song – linking rural and urban, long gone and contemporary.
