Blues, Jazz, and Dance
Elsie's Place
1475 Route 208
Wallkill, NY   See Map
Last weekend we took a sweet drive down Route 208 going south out of New Paltz. We watched a beautiful sunset over The Shawangunk Ridge and in about 15 minutes arrived at a cozy little roadhouse in Wallkill called Elsie's Place (Wallkill was the original home of Borden's Dairy, hence the name). Mirna our host could not have been nicer and that pulled pork was mighty tasty! They have a wood stove and a dance floor and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. (It reminded us of The Willow Creek Inn for those of you that go back that far.) We'd love to see you next weekend at this new (for us) venue and show some love to the club owners who make live music possible. We're planning on a great night: food, dancing and music. What more do you need?

“The songs of this trio (The YaYas) are wise and moving, the melodies poignant. ... They are beautifully sung – delivered with both skill & charm." So say Richard Cuccaro, Acoustic Live in NYC & Beyond, and Phil Ciganer, Towne Crier Café

Trio Mio is Fran Palmieri, Robert Muller, Bruce Hildenbrand, and Steve Massardo; yes four pieces. Arithmetically challenged from the start, their original repertoire features vocal harmonies and shows their influences from rock, country, jazz, and folk music.

IT'S ALL IN ONE SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE PACKAGE. His spellbinding live show. His deliriously virtuosic singing. His accomplished guitar style. His outrageous, edgy humor. And the songwriting. The songwriting. Vance Gilbert burst onto the singer/songwriter scene in the early 90's when the buzz started spreading in the folk clubs of Boston about an ex-jazz singer who was knocking 'em dead at open mikes. The word spread of this Philadelphia-area born and raised performer to New York; Shawn Colvin invited Vance Gilbert to be special guest on her Fat City tour. Gilbert took audiences across the country by storm. He has since released 6 celebrated albums. The latest, "Unfamiliar Moon" is Vance Gilbert at his most fearless, timeless, compelling best. Opening the evening will be Marc von Em. Marc, a soulfully energized singer/songwriter who’s sound is rooted in blues, folk, rock and reggae.

Rene Bailey uses her vocal clarity to sell the blues with true feeling. Mixing gospel, jazz, and rhythm/blues, she sang with Louis Armstrong, BB King, Aretha, Brubeck, Ruth Brown, Paul Anka, Sam Cooke, & many more… Rene Bailey started singing gospel as a kid in her Georgia church. Moving to NYC, she hit the scene where she sang blues & jazz. The transition from gospel to nightclub work came naturally, & Rene became the vocalist at Peg Leg Bates' Club for 20 years. In church it's called "shouting"-the gospel dance. "They get up and shout & shout." In a club when Rene Bailey sings and "it" hits, you yell, "Yes, indeed!"

The Police Files are an authentic recreation of the sound and energy of The Police; the most musically influential and commercially successful Rock band of the 1980's. Jim Keneally on bass, Ira Seigel on guitar, and Mike Marble on drums have applied their notable talents to what at first was an enjoyable experiment but has become an outright homage to The Police. Their musicianship has taken them to national and international stages... the orchestra pits of Broadway shows and recording studios with some of the industry's most well-known artists. For this project they have harnessed the particular skill sets needed to recapture those of Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, whose last tour a few years ago grossed over $300 million in ticket sales alone. Come experience The Police Files and you'll remember why you, and millions of others, loved that unique, energetic, thoughtful sound of The Police.

Melissa has performed at several of our singer/songwriter showcases, including our 500th Performance event last April.

Kristina Koller, a Yorktown High School junior, and Omar Ramirez from Walter Panas High, were also "discovered" at one of our new Kids' Open Mic nights. Kristina plays acoustic guitar and ukelele. Omar has a great voice and his passion comes through in every song. They'll each do alternating sets, twice around.

Peekskill, NY   See Map
Nine years ago, Kim Clarke, bassist extraordinaire, who has been included in the Who's Who In the Performing Arts, Bass Player Magazine, Guitar Player Magazine, and several books on Women in Jazz, was called to sub for Eric Lemon at the Jazz Spot, a new club in Brooklyn. Owner, Lillithe Meyers, surprised to meet Clarke, asked her point blank "Where are all the female musicians?” Having toured many years with Kit McClure and her all women Big Band, Clarke knew plenty and from that chance encounter The Lady Got Chops Women's Month Music and Art Festival was born.

"I produce this festival to feature and mentor women performers and bandleaders, to give 'sidepersons' a chance to be heard and recognized for their valuable contributions to the Arts, and to spread the history of the great women musicians who preceded them."

MOPCO brings its unique brand of improv to a new Proctors venue--UNDERGROUND at Proctors--Friday nights at 8:00pm.

"UNDERGROUND at Proctors with Mopco" features a blend of short and long form improv. Audience members participate as much or as little as they like in the creation of stories, scenes, songs and games enlivened by Mopco's trademarked controlled chaos. There's always a surprise at a Mopco show!

Formats include Theatresports (Theatrical competition between teams of improvisors) Spontaneous Broadway (A full length improvised musical from audience suggestions) and Tapestry (a multi media "improv jazz" show blending story, song, and visuals.)
