Evocative Jazz, Exotic Lounge
with Studio Stu
Jazz, Alternative, and Comedic
Gabriel's Cafe
50 John Street
Kingston, NY   See Map
Back for dinner at his favorite lunchtime haunt, Studios Stu returns to perform again at Gabriel's Cafe. Great food by Susan, byob, sit back, relax and listen to the sultry tones of tunes familiar and obscure.

Here's what we've heard;

Studio Stu, with his state-of-the-art Studivarious single string bass, unique Brooklyn humor, and unusual, hypnotic vocals, is a master...a one string wonder, combining a traditional folk instrument and a classic jazz form, to create a third thing (one we haven’t quite figured out what to call yet).....fearless in delivery and willing to navigate uncharted paths through the improvisational wilderness; he is ‘el ultimo hombre del lounge’.

Studio Stu takes the very best in classic jazz, pop, and originals, and twists and bends them into what he calls ‘evocative jazz & exotic lounge’. He starts with standard tunes and a loop machine, except, nothing is sacred.....improv is rampant...lyrics are changed at will...

Two extraordinarily talented Singer/Songwriters in one night! We're really looking forward to this...

One of the most versatile musicians around, Petey Hop is equally at home playing down home Blues, Folk, Country, Rockabilly as he is jamming out with blistering Rock and Roll. His original songs are powerfully written, musically intriguing and downright fun to listen to. Songs like "Mountain", "GI Blues" and our favorite, "Talk".

Mishti Roy has a voice that is unique, soulful and moving, and her guitar playing is just as incredible. If you haven't had the pleasure of hearing Mishti sing, you're missing out on one of the finest vocalists in the Hudson Valley. When she takes to the drums, she offers up another level of talent that will keep you riveted.

Petey and Mishti. It don't get much better than this.

The Brighton Beat
Jazz
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
The Brighton Beat was formed in 2010 out of a love for afrobeat, old and new. Although it's a new project, the musicians in The Brighton Beat have been playing music together for years. Realizing their common love for jazz and afrobeat, they decided to set forth on an adventurous path, writing their own interpretation of afrobeat-funk in today's modern world. The band takes influence from many styles; everything from Fela Kuti and Antibalas to John Coltrane, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood help spark the creativity of the group. In late 2010, they recorded their first self-titled EP, which has received rave reviews in the jazz-world. Their unique approach translates into an invigorating live performance, combining tight arrangements, fresh grooves, and a very jazz-influenced sound. The Brighton Beat is sure to be a fun, interactive, and memorable show.

The Chris O'Leary Band's latest CD, "Mr. Used to Be", has been nominated for the 2011 Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut. And it's no wonder. Chris O'Leary is one of the Hudson Valley's hottest Blues harp players, and his band is made up of seasoned Blues musicians, including "scorching" blues guitarist Chris Vitarello, Sean McCarthy on drums, Willa McCarthy on vocals, Frankie Ingrao on bass, and Andy Stahl and Chris DiFrancesco on sax. The band's powerful, horn-driven sets are marked by O'Leary wailing on harmonica.

Chris O'Leary was the lead singer and front man for Levon Helm and The Barnburners for over 7 years, touring across the US and lighting up stages everywhere they went. Chris has also appeared on stage with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmy Vivino, Albert Lee and Dave Edmunds, Dave Maxwell and many others. If you love great Blues, don't miss this night!
