This weekend is John Lennon's 70th birthday. 30 years after his death, his musical legacy lives on. People around the world will be honoring his memory in song, from Iceland to Liverpool to New York City and beyond. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we're remembering John Lennon's songs. His lyrics. His life. And his influences on our lives. Join us tonight for a John Lennon Tribute.

We don't know a bigger fan of John Lennon than Steve Chizmadia. (Well, maybe we know one or two.) Steve is an award-winning singer/songwriter whose repertoire and love of Lennon songs runs deep... and his musical talent and vocals are perfect for the part. Steve will be joined by Fred Gillen Jr., Steve Kirkman, Eric Puente and Paul Silverman. Let's Come Together.

For more than 35 years, Tony Trischka's stylings have inspired a whole generation of bluegrass and acoustic musicians, including Bela Fleck - one of his early students. With his fearless musical curiosity as the guiding force, Tony Trischka's latest critically acclaimed release, Territory, roams widely through the banjo's creative terrain, exploring a panorama of tunings, banjo sounds and traditions with fellow banjoists Pete Seeger, Mike Seeger, Bill Evans, Bill Keith and Bruce Molsky. Other musicians Trischka has collaborated with include Steve Martin, Peter Rowan, Earl Scruggs and many other luminaries. It's likely you've already enjoyed his playing – possibly on the soundtrack of Driving Miss Daisy, on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage or any of a number of other places his inventive work has appeared over the years.

“Unequaled bliss comes to the heart of the Yogi who hears the internal sound of the Nada”. -The Nada-Bindu Upanishad

By bringing our minds to single pointed attention on the internal sacred sound, we quiet the chatter of the mind and experience a deep feeling of comfort and contentment.

This meditation, based on the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, will be framed by mediations on the 4 levels of sound:

Vaikhari (external sounds) Madhyama (mental sounds) Pashyanti (visual sounds) Para (Eternal sound) The result will be to connect us with the Nada, the sound of the Universe, the sound of bliss.

The coffeehouse performances start at 7:30 pm with an open-mic format followed by featured performers, Kevin & Carol Becker w/ Rich Keyes.

A performance by Kevin & Carol Becker with Rich Keyes starts with deep roots in traditional folk music. To those roots they add musical versatility, mix in both historical and contemporary themes, and season it all with a healthy dose of good-natured humor. Performing together regularly for over fifteen years, Kevin, Carol, and Rich have developed a unique sound that combines breathtaking vocals, instrumental dexterity, and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other's talents. Music for Humanity Free Performance Night

Campbell Hall, NY   See Map
Once a month Music for Humanity invites 3 local/regional performers to share their music. Each gets a 30 minute set and does originals and/or covers. We've had many singer-songwriters but we've also had some classical performers. This is a free event and there are only about 40 seats (they are usually all taken) so we recommend arriving before 7PM to get a seat.

We've had some incredible evenings of music. Although its in a coffee house the people are coming to listen and the performers really appreciate that attention.

The performers have all donated their time and we put out the hat for "tips" which goes into the Music for Humanity scholarship fund. MFH is a 501c-3 charity and our mission is to use the spiritual and emotional power of music to positively impact our world. All donations are fully tax-deductible. You can make an online donation here: http://musicforhumanity.org/musicians/index.php?t=mfh_donate

MFH has no employees. We all donate our time.

Blessed with a magnificent range, Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the 1990s cult band October Project. In a review of OP's first release, Allmusic.com dubbed Fahl the "lovechild" of Stevie Nicks & Peter Steel, "...a completely unique artist, sounding like no other vocalist of her era." Following her days with October Project, Fahl embarked upon a solo career with several notable collaborators, including Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz ("Wicked") and Academy Award nominated lyricist, Ramsey McLean ("Sleepless in Seattle"). As a solo artist, Fahl was finally able to blossom as a songwriter. As she told Liane Hansen of NPR, cinema and film scores have had a profound influence on her music, envisioning each song she writes as a "tiny universe onto itself." | "Mary Fahl has a voice for the gods" -Steve Morse, The Boston Globe
