Heritage Folk Music and the Saugerties Historic Society are proud to present nationally known folksinger, Joe Hickerson, in concert on August 15 from 3-5pm. The concert will be held at the Kiersted House at 119 Main St in Saugerties and tickets will be sold at the door for $8. Hickerson wrote the 5th and 6th verses to Where have all the Flowers Gone,” and has been called a “great song leader” by Pete Seeger. He also is an alumnus of Camp Woodland in the Catskills and is very knowledgeable about regional folk music. As a folklorist, ethnomusicologist and archivist, Hickerson also spent 35 years as the Librarian and Director of the Archive of Folk Song/Culture at the Library of Congress. Performing together regularly for nearly 20 years, Kevin and Carol have developed a unique sound that combines breathtaking vocals, instrumental dexterity, and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other's talents. That sound starts with Kevin's intricate finger picking on guitar, augmented by his impeccable harmonica playing. Carol's soaring vocals, clear, bright, and pure, stand out when solo and form compelling harmonies with Kevin's soothing, comforting voice. They feature other instruments as well, notably mountain dulcimer, recorder, bodhran, Appalachian limber horse, and various whistles.

With a voice that has been likened to Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, the late Eva Cassidy, and even Shawn Colvin-meets-Ani DiFranco, Marji Zintz is a solo vocalist/arranger/acoustic guitarist who has performed and recorded as a soloist and in duet settings in the jazz and folk genres with various bassists (i.e., Mike Richmond, Jay Anderson, Steve Roane, Josef Pelletier) and in larger ensembles. Marji has also worked in collaboration with improvisational vocalists in a mostly a capella recording and performance project called Sister Sound and currently is also currently one third of the trio GaiaWolf, performing original "music for the planet." | ||
