Saturday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm | Davey O. Americana | Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe 40 West Market Street Red Hook, NY See Map |
Singer-songwriter Davey O is a resilient artist with a career that has not been of the skyrocket variety. It's been a slow steady climb, a ten-year journey of learning to scrape away anything that smacks of cliché and turn the raw experience of life into songs that cut straight through to a place of sunlight and tears. The struggle has paid off in a collection of songs that are justly earned--no hackneyed storylines, no insincere polish, just an unflinching poet's look at life. His style is pure Americana--a mix of back porch folk and beer hall rowdy. You've already met his characters: the home-loving troubadour wondering if it's worth the long miles in an anonymous landscape; the brilliant but wild boy whose heart drowns in life's hurricane; the pretty girl at the bar whosesweet smile looks like a promise of redemption. audiences throughout

Saturday 8:30 pm | CHIP TAYLOR Trio, featuring John Platania, with special guest Bill Bachmann Singer-Songwriter, Rock (classic), and Country | Towne Crier Cafe 130 Route 22 Pawling, NY See Map |
To call Chip Taylor's life an incredible story is almost an understatement. As a songwriter, Taylor has hit the charts in five decades now. He wrote Wild Thing, one of the primary songs of the rock'n'roll canon since it was a #1 hit for The Troggs in 1966. His song Angel of the Morning has been a hit for Merilee Rush, Juice Newton and most recently Shaggy, whose chart-topping version earned Taylor the status of having the longest span of #1 hits in music history. As No Depression magazine noted, "Maybe somebody else has had cuts by Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra and Willie Nelson, but it's got to be a pretty elite club." Taylor has also been a spectacularly successful professional gambler, as well as a recording artist and producer of such acts as the young James Taylor (no relation) and pop superstar Neil Diamond. He was an integral part of the bustling New York pop songwriting scene in its 1960s Brill Building heyday, one of the pioneers of the progressive country style. More info at the Towne Crier Cafe
