Singer-Songwriter
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Scott Krokoff is an independent singer-songwriter from Queens, New York, and a former tax lawyer who took the bold step to pursue his lifelong dream to be a musician. To make manifest his desire to leave his past behind and go for his dream, Scott called his debut CD, A Better Life, which features a diverse array of folk, pop and rock songs. At heart, Scott is a folk-rocker largely influenced by 60's and 70's artists while also drawing from new influences and sounds. His sound combines the pop-rock of John Mayer and the folksiness of James Taylor, creating the kind of crossover appeal that is the hallmark of artists like Shania Twain. It is mellow and folky on one hand, yet rhythmic and energetic on the other with a pop-rock aspect to it.

Mr. Charles, 79, is one of the most influential vibraphonists in jazz, having played with the likes of Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus and Miles Davis. - Corey Kilgannon NY Times

As a student at Julliard in the 1940s, Charles haunted New York's jazz clubs, occasionally sitting in with the bands on vibes or piano. His break came when he was asked to sit in on piano with Coleman Hawkin's band for the overdue Thelonious Monk. Soon after, Charles began to appear regularly with the top jazz groups of the day, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Buddy De Franco, playing alongside and writing for such jazz stars as Coltrane, Parker, Max Roach and Davis. Charles left the music scene for a while, spending his time as a sail charter captain, but couldn’t stay away. He recently appeared with Roach, David Amram, and Lee Konitz, and the Teddy Charles Tentet. He has recording numerous original works including "No More Nights," "Blues Become Elektra" and "Word from Bird."

Rock (classic)
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
If you missed their 12 Grapes performance last time, now's your chance! Andy Aledort has performed with scores of rock legends... Dickey Betts, the Allman's and the late, great, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Famous for meticulously capturing, note-for-note, the licks and tone of artists like Clapton and Hendrix, Andy Aledort is often tapped for high-profile appearances. When a band needs a player who can recreate the guitar work of Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Freddie King or Johnny Winter, Andy delivers in a big way. Aledort was once sought after by Aerosmith's Joe Perry for an emergency Blues lesson, and has performed as a member of the Dickey Betts and Great Southern band for the last five years, displaying masterful slide guitar work. Aledort also participated in a series of Jimi Hendrix Tribute concerts, including a three-city tour of the west coast with veteran bluesman Buddy Guy. Dinner Reservations recommended.

A 5-day workshop for singers and people who would like to sing more or know more about how to sing. The focus will be on fun, safety, comfort and somehow learning how to stand up and sing with others or, for those who wish to, and I hope you do, in front of others. We'll do a lot of stretching (a la gentle yoga) for enhanced breathing and simply because it feels good. We'll sing in groups small and large. We'll listen a lot and sing a lot. Eat a lot, walk a lot, sleep a lot and we'll get to know each other well. It's always great at Omega, so if you can take a week off, I hope you'll join me.

More information will be in the Omega catalogue early in 2010. To contact me directly about it, please use the email form under the "Contact" link from my home page.

TONY TRISCHKA, also TIM ERIKSEN
Acoustic, Roots Music
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
Tony Trischka is perhaps the most influential banjo player in the roots music world. For more than 35 years, Tony's stylings have inspired a whole generation of bluegrass and acoustic musicians, including Bela Fleck - one of his early students. It's likely you've already enjoyed his playing - on the soundtrack of Driving Miss Daisy, on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, Mountain Stage or any of a number of other places his inventive work has appeared over the years.

Fans of hardcore Americana singer/multi-instrumentalist TIM ERIKSEN ("Cordelia's Dad" band; "Cold Mountain" soundtrack) know him for his hair-raising voice and intense renditions of ancient American songs. Hailed as "among the world's finest folk practitioners" (-Toronto Star), Tim's sound is a tightrope walk balancing tradition and innovation, as becomes someone who has shared the stage with both Doc Watson and Kurt Cobain, and recorded with both Ralph Stanley and Jack White.
