Rising Tribe Music
Folk/Traditional, Country, and Rock (classic)
Taste Budd's Chocolate and Coffee Cafe
40 West Market Street
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Categorized as Folk Rock, Country, Island Reggae, and Classic Rock, Rising Tribe demonstrates adeptness at each genre, catching all the nuances and bringing them to light. In addition, the song 'In Pain' holds a Celtic reminder with its sweet, natural sound, and the title track, 'Back To The Water' has a moving tribal feel. It's difficult to choose a favorite, as every selection has so much to offer. 'Think' is philosophical and smart with a modern edge; 'Montana' is country -- simple and clean, with pitch-perfect harmony, and 'No Hard Feelings' is sad and sweet. We loved the catchy 'Six O'Clock,' too. This music inhabits both the past and the here and now, simultaneously -- a rare feat for a band that is a rare find."

Tracy Grammer
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic, and Americana
Common Ground Coffeehouse
25 Old Jackson Avenue
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
Join us for this very special evening with Tracy Grammer, of whom Joan Baez has said, “Tracy Grammer is a brilliant artist and unique individual. Her voice is distinctive, as is her mastery over the instruments she plays.” Grammer is currently touring in support of FLOWER OF AVALON, her solo debut. Flower of Avalon includes nine previously-unreleased songs by the late Dave Carter and one traditional tune. Grammer digs deep into the spirit of Carter's poetic verses and haunting melodies to color each song with textures and flourishes that blur the boundaries of categorization. Paired with Grammer’s voice -- emotive, warm and versatile -- the songs on Flower of Avalon are nothing less than visionary. Mary Chapin Carpenter sings harmony on three cuts and wrote the liner notes for the record. Carpenter writes, “Tracy’s continuing quest to make sure that the world remembers Dave Carter marks a new beginning of artistry for her. We are lucky that she is so brave, generous and gifted.”

130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
It's all in one seemingly impossible package: Vance Gilbert's spellbinding live show; his deliriously virtuosic singing; his accomplished guitar style; his outrageous, edgy humor; AND the songwriting. With one of the sharpest wits in folk music, Vance is one of the most entertaining singer-songwriters you'll ever see. But, he can deftly change the mood of a show in an instant with a sincere delivery of one of his deep-flowing songs. So, don't be surprised if your tears of laughter mix with tears of sorrow in a satisfying blend of yin and yang. :|: With an unerring eye for detail, Austin singer/songwriter SARA HICKMAN gives us a window into various people's worlds, including our own. Sara possesses a sparkling voice that expressively moves from pensive to giddy to sensual, and her words and music tap into emotions we all share.

Debut Album Now Available!
with Shane Murphy
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
Taste Budd's Cafe
40 W Market St
Red Hook, NY   See Map
Shane Murphy, 23, believes in a good breakfast. Also, early-rising, the United States Postal Service, and learning your scales. And in a reheated, Kerouac-saturated, perpetually slacking world, these personal affects are the types of things that keep a man from drowning. You might spend your time blogging about an evanescent underground, posting pictures on your facespace profile, and feeding the evil android in your pocket enough dirt to grow potatoes, but Mr. Murphy will have none of that, thank you. He’s got Nurse Ratched’s number. All of them.

Shane Murphy makes the music of a contemporary minstrel. He comines the mystical, Old Weird Americana of The Band with the jazz-leaning technicality of Tim Buckley.

His debut album, loosestrife/tightgrief, was completed in April 2010.

Kelley Suttenfield is a jazz singer who puts a modern twist on American Songbook classics, as well as more contemporary tunes from blues, jazz, pop and latin repertoires. JazzTimes said this of Kelley's debut CD, Where is Love: "Performing an array of cover tunes with a torchlight glisten, including Stanley Turpentine’s “Sugar,” Betty Carter’s “Open The Door,” and Henry Mancini’s “Charade,” Suttenfield encourages the listener to delve into an imaginary sanctuary...."

Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Two extraordinarily talented Singer/Songwriters in one night! We're really looking forward to this...

Mishti Roy (pictured here) has a voice that is unique, soulful and moving, and her guitar playing is just as incredible. If you haven't had the pleasure of hearing Mishti sing, you're missing out on one of the finest vocalists in the Hudson Valley. When she takes to the drums, she offers up another level of talent that will keep you riveted.

Equally talented and unique is Steve Chizmadia, a songwriter from Long Island who has the Long Horns of Texas in his soul. With each song, Steve tells a story, and brings us to places across the country in his own endearing, Americana style. His songs have received some acclaim over the years. Steve is a 2003 Kerrville New Folk finalist and in 2005 his song "This Old Town" received honorable mention from the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival.

Mishti & Steve... a Singer/Songwriter Showcase that won't disappoint!

It says on their website that "BrotherFlower is feverishly working on world domination with their undeniable love for playing music together." Their sound is both traditional and new: everything from gospel to old rock & roll songs, with quite a bit of their own material mixed in. The band features the vocal talents of Jake Stigers, Bill Kelly and Gary Dillon, who, along with great harmonies, bring a unique mix of instrumentation to the group, creatively blending acoustic guitar and drum with the dulcimer, mandola, fiddle, banjo and dobro. Their name comes from the song Brother Flower by Townes Van Zandt. Their original songs like Beans on a Knife, Down in New Orleans or Your Poor Daddy's Heart are said to be reminiscent of The Band or Hank Williams. The trio performed "in the round" at 12 Grapes, and you can catch a video of them by clicking the link below.

Alexis P. Suter is a rising star on the roots, blues and soul scene. Her powerful bass/baritone voice, seasoned with raw emotion and a wide streak of attitude, has won the praise of greats from B.B. King to Levon Helm. Suter's Band regularly perform at the acclaimed Levon Helm Midnight Ramble Sessions in Woodstock, NY. "It's a rare thing to share the stage with great talent like that young lady!" - B.B. King. Alexis had the honor of opening up for Mr. BB King himself at the BB King Blues Club in New York, and for Etta James, also at BB King's. We hope you can catch this powerhouse blues singing & her exceptional band. With a voice as rich & powerful as rum chocolate cheesecake, this is a must-see show you won't regret trying.
