Common Ground Downtown
James Harmon Community Center, 44 Main Street
Hastings-on-Hudson, NY   See Map
Electric Junkyard Gamelan is the brainchild of band leader, composer and instrument builder Terry Dame. Performing her original groove-driven music on self-invented instruments this unique band has a distinct voice that is at once both old and new. EJG performs at venues ranging from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City to elementary schools in Iowa, arts centers large and small to music festivals, underground raves and even a wedding. Originally inspired by the interlocking rhythms of traditional Gamelan music from Bali, today the group's music is influenced by a diverse range of sounds from eastern modal music to funk, klezmer to hip hop. They perform on instruments such as the Rubarp and Big Barp (electric rubber band harps), the Sitello (an electric cello/sitar combo), the Terraphone (copper pipe horn), the Clayrimba (a three octave tuned clay pot "marimba") and percussion instruments fashioned from old farm equipment, turntable platters, saw blades, and truck springs.

Chris O'Leary is one of the Hudson Valley's premier blues harp players, and his band is made up of seasoned blues musicians, including "scorching" blues guitarist Chris Vitarello. With Mike Severino on drums, Frankie Ingrao on bass, Andy Stahl and Chris DiFrancesco on sax, this band's powerful, horn-driven sets are marked by Chris wailing on harmonica.

Chris O'Leary was the lead singer and front man for Levon Helm and The Barnburners. During the 7 years that Chris and Levon played together they toured across the US lighting up stages everywhere they went. Chris has also appeared on stage with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmy Vivino, Albert Lee and Dave Edmunds, Dave Maxwell and many others.

I love the Rosendale Cafe; they present world-class musicians and it's one of the few places I can go where I can order most anything they have on their menu!

What this is. Lifted from their site: "The Rosendale Cafe has been bringing notable performances to the area for 16 years. This more humble opportunity for local performances started with a very successful run of the Community Music Night, and the series has run on and off since fall 2007.

"The showcase has been a performance opportunity for both newly-established artists, and those that were outside the musical style of the Cafe's usual weekend bookings."
