with Daphne Willis
Singer-Songwriter
12 Grapes Music & Wine Bar
12 North Division Street
Peekskill, NY   See Map
Chicago-based Daphne Willis is a "marvelously expressive artist with a bracingly seductive sound." It seems that being discovered has been Daphne's fate. She had planned to release her second album herself, but a record company exec heard her music on the in-flight station and tracked her down. Recently-released by Vanguard records, her new CD, "What to Say", is an Acoustic-Rock blend reminiscent of Nora Jones and Natalie Imbruglia. Willis has even been compared to a young Rickie Lee Jones and a female Jack Johnson. A review in the Herald Tribune noted, "The melodies, the horn-punctuated arrangements and the playful but intelligent lyrics reel you in."

Daphne was also recently discovered by someone else: Hailey, our bartender. When Hailey heard her CD, she immediately fell in love with her sound, and we heartily agreed. We're pleased to welcome the very talented Daphne Willis to our 12 Grapes stage.

Hopewell Junction / Wappengers Falls, NY   See Map
Correy Valle is a seven year old Hudson Valley boy, Who suffers from a rare degenerative problem S M A. (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). S M A affects the spinal cord and nerves resulting in muscular wasting and weakness. Corey is in need of a wheelchair accessible van. His prior van was destroyed by fire, just before last Thanksgiving. Unfortunaely insurance will not cover the cost of a new van, and Medicaid will NOT pay for a lift in an older van. Corey will require further surgeries and as he gets older, its getting more difficult to lift and carry him. A van with a lift will also allow him to travel with his motorized wheelchair and not have to be restricted or lifted in or out. If that wasn't enough for any family to handle, Correy's Mom was let go from her job, because she needed to be with Correy in the city for his last two surgeries. For further information, Please contact Terry Teeling, founder of the Corey Valle fund at (845) 632-1968.

FRED EAGLESMITH, with special guest Joe D'Urso
Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic
Towne Crier Cafe
130 Route 22
Pawling, NY   See Map
A fiercely independent and original artist, Fred Eaglesmith's devoted fans follow him from one show to another to savor what one reviewer calls the "fury and fun" of his concerts – frequently as hilarious as the best stand-up comedians. Drawing from folk, country, rock, gospel, old-time music and bluegrass (he's the only Canadian to ever write a #1 bluegrass hit), Eaglesmith's 17 albums have consistently evoked critical raves while also hitting the upper reaches of americana charts. Fellow songwriters regularly record his songs and sing his praises; Martin Scorsese and James Caan have used his compositions in film projects; his songs have even become part of the course curriculum at 2 colleges. New Yorker magazine said it best: "If you're missing Fred Eaglesmith, you're really missing out."

Louis Landon will be playing his original songs and instrumental piano pieces. There is a possibility that some Great American Songbook standards might make the mix. Maybe a Beatle's song. Could be anything.

It’s Tough Being a Woman, but a Woman Can Handle It!
with Marcy Freedman
Presentation of short videos and performance art
BeanRunner Cafe
201 S. Division Street @ Esther
Peekskill, NY   See Map
In honor of Women's History Month, Freedman will present several short videos and one short performance piece. Each of the selected works addresses one or more issues facing contemporary women: the frustrations and rewards of motherhood; the pressures of domestic and professional responsibilities; the challenges of getting older in a society that glorifies youth. Despite the serious nature of these topics, the program will be lighthearted -- because Freedman manages to inject her quirky sense of humor into all of her creations.

Freedman is an artist who has worked with a variety of media, from painting, drawing and sculpture to photography, video, and performance art. Her artworks have been included in more than 200 exhibitions around the country. She lives in Croton-on-Hudson and maintains a studio in Peekskill.
Free and open to the public.

A former New York City cab driver, bartender, bouncer, and actor, David Ray's songs have been described as "cinematic." They've been sung by artists as varied as Grammy-winner Shawn Colvin and Dove Award winner Kathy Troccoli, and recorded by producers from Rick Wake to Arif Mardin. Along with Lyle Lovett, Richie Havens, Julie Gold (From a Distance) and others, his early Fast Folk recordings are now part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
