Hudson River School of Folk Music
with The 3 Rix, Rich Bala, Rick Nestler, Rik Palieri
Folk/Traditional, Acoustic, and Country
Dutch Arms Chapel
John St
Saugerties, NY   See Map
Just as there is a “Hudson River School of Painting”, whose artists like Thomas Cole, Frederic Church, and Jasper Cropsey sought to capture and preserve an idyllic view of the Hudson River Valley, so too is there a lesser known, unofficial “Hudson River School of Folk Music”, among which Rich Bala, Rick Nestler, and Rik Palieri can be counted as some of its “students”. Like those painters who created sweeping vistas of Catskill Mountain landscapes and majestic views of Hudson River scenes, they too are creating an image with lyrics and melodies of the lives and stories of the people who dwelled and settled in this region long ago.

Together, “The Three Rix” will present a sampling of songs from various periods in the area’s lengthy and distinct history, from the earliest times to the present, and will have you singing along and tapping your feet.

Rich Kelly (pictured here) is a singer, bassist and guitarist who plays solo and as a sideman in many ensembles. He's been showcased on local TV shows such as The Working Musician. Rich is lead guitarist of The Track, with Drew Bordeaux and Chris Burke, and a frequent performer at our Singer/Songwriter Showcases. Rich performs both originals and covers with an infectious style that keeps us, and his fans, coming back for more.

Kevin Haden studied vocal performance at NYU, and has written a number of compositions. Of all of his releases and compositions, "Mercy" is Kevin's favorite. "It was the song I wanted to hear that nobody else had recorded... stylistically, it's a near perfect blend of everything I've ever wanted to do." Shades of Tracy Chapman, Prince, Seal and Tool can be found throughout. His style is a mix of folk, rock, and soul. We look forward to welcoming Kevin back to our stage.
